We study the charged pion transverse momentum(pT)spectra inp+pcollisions as a function of collision energysand event multiplicity using Tsallis distribution. This study gives an insight of the pion production process inp+pcollisions. The study covers pion spectra measured inp+pcollisions at SPS energies (6.27–17.27 GeV), RHIC energies (62.4 GeV and 200 GeV), and LHC energies (900 GeV, 2.76 TeV, and 7 TeV). The Tsallis parameters have been obtained and parameterized as a function ofs. The study suggests that as we move to higher energy more and more hard processes contribute to the spectra. We also study the charged pion spectra for different event multiplicities inp+pcollisions for LHC energies using Tsallis distribution. The variation of the Tsallis parameters as a function of event multiplicity has been obtained and their behavior is found to be independent of collision energy.

The two-pion production in pp-collisions has been investigated in exclusive measurements from threshold up to Tp = 1.36 GeV . Total and differential cross sections have been obtained for the channels pnπ+π0, ppπ+π-, ppπ0π0 and also nnπ+π+. For intermediate incident energies Tp > 1 GeV , i.e. in the region, which is beyond the Roper excitation but at the onset of ΔΔ excitation the total ppπ0π0 cross section falls behind theoretical predictions by as much as an order of magnitude near 1.2 GeV, whereas the nnπ+π+ cross section is a factor of five larger than predicted. A model-unconstrained isospin decompostion of the cross section points to a significant contribution of an isospin 3/2 resonance other than the Δ(1232). As a possible candidate the Δ(1600) is discussed.

The pp→ppπ+π- and pp→ppπ0π0 reactions have been measured at CELSIUS in the energy range Tp=775-1360 MeV using the WASA 4π detector. For Tp<1 GeV the data are in accordance with Roper excitation and σ correlations in the ππ system, respectively. For Tp>1 GeV they agree with ΔΔ excitation in the special configuration (ΔΔ)0+. For the π0π0 channel an enhancement at low Mπ0π0 masses is observed, which possibly points to Bose-Einstein correlations.

The collision centrality dependencies of the average kinematical characteristics of the negative and positive pions, produced in [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text], were investigated. The ratio [Formula: see text] proved to be [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] in the peripheral, semicentral, and central [Formula: see text] collision events, respectively, decreasing noticeably with increasing collision centrality. The suppression (decrease) of the ratio [Formula: see text] was observed in the semicentral and central [Formula: see text] collisions as compared to the ratio [Formula: see text], estimated using the simple model for [Formula: see text] collision system. The ratio [Formula: see text] estimated using the simple model agreed well with the corresponding ratio [Formula: see text], estimated for [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text] based on the Wounded Nucleon Model (WNM). Comparison of the emission angle as well as momentum distributions of the charged pions in the peripheral and central [Formula: see text] collisions revealed the significant decrease of the fraction of the relatively fast charged pions (with smaller emission angles) and increase of the fraction of the relatively slow charged pions (with larger emission angles) with an increase in collision centrality. The results of the present analysis can be useful for analysis of the centrality dependence of the charged pion production in heavy ion collisions at high energies.
