The structural and morphological modifications induced by the carbonization stage upon 3C-SiC heteroepitaxial films grown on (111) and (100) oriented silicon substrates have been investigated. The crystalline quality of the films is strongly dependent on the carbonization parameters (propane flow rate and duration of carbonization). The (111) heteroepitaxial films coalesce more rapidly and present a lower dependence on the carbonization conditions than (100) films. By comparing the evolution of the interfacial defects (voids) density with existing models, we show that this is related to the initial mechanisms occurring during the carbonization stage. The twin defects densities on (111), (100) and (211) films are also investigated and the role of the only carbonization stage on their formation is studied.

Theoretically, neoliberalism is acknowledged as a powerful, discursive mode of governmentality, whose key tenets widely influence sociological discourses around the role of money in attaining quality of life and happiness. However, few studies qualitatively reflect in any detail on how neoliberalism is implicated in the making of particular subjectivities. In this comparative study, participants from different income contexts (middle and low income, and downshifters) are interviewed about money meanings with attention to the particular ways of living they narrate. The findings attest to participant adoption of, and/or resistance to, lay forms of neoliberalism in the ordering of their subjectivities around key themes: life values, life goals, monetary boundaries and future understandings. Their stories show the prevalence of the neoliberal subject and clarify the practical limits of neoliberal discourses, as well as demonstrating how moral alternatives to neoliberalism can transform self-understanding and practice.

Background: Ureteral stent placement is a routine urological procedure. However, patients inserted with ureteral stent exhibited increased urinary symptoms that compromise patients’ quality of life. Objective: To assess the efficacy of alpha blockers (Alfuzosin) in the management of ureteral stent related urinary symptoms. Methods: Total of 60 patients after ureteral stent insertion was randomly divided into two equal groups; 30 in alfuzosin group and the remaining 30 in control group. Urinary symptoms questionnaire was filled after two weeks and results were statistically analyzed. Results: Urinary symptoms like urgency, frequency and flank pain were significantly less in the alfuzosin group when compared with control group. Conclusion: Alpha blocker (Alfuzosin) was found to be effective in reducing ureteral stent related urinary symptoms.Journal of Gandaki Medical CollegeVol. 10, No. 1, 2017, page: 28-30

ABSTRACTOne interesting application of epitaxial magnetic thin films is to use them as one of the electrodes in a spin-dependent tunneling junction, in order to use the magnetocrystalline anisotropy to define the required two states of the magnetization. [1] In our preliminary work, we prepared epitaxial magnetic films on copper buffer layers grown on silicon substrates. [2] The single crystalline quality of the films was particularly evident in the magnetization hysteresis loops, showing a sharp reversal at fairly high fields (120 Oe), when the samples were magnetized along the crystallographic easy axis. One technological disadvantage in this type of samples is the chemical interaction between the metallic layers and the silicon substrate. In order to explore the possibility of epitaxial magnetic films on less reactive substrates, we studied the growth on MgO substrates. We have shown that it is possible to obtain epitaxial (001) and (111) Ni films grown on MgO substrates. [3] In particular we observed that the crystalline quality of the films improved considerably after 10 nm of film growth. We will now present our studies on the magnetic properties of these films, particularly the azimuthal dependence of the magnetization reversal using MOKRE, correlating our finding with the structural characterization obtained with RHEED, STM and XRD.

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the role of a Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND), one of New Urbanist principles, in the regeneration of post-industrial city centers. Its structure is the following. First, the contemporary elements of the TND are identified. Then, their actual versus declared use in strategies aimed at the renewal of major post-industrial sites is analyzed. Finally, the elements’ ability to improve the spatial quality of an urban area is assessed. The above purpose is achieved by analyzing the application of the New Urbanist planning tools by two urban regeneration projects at different levels of completion. The sites of the projects are the central areas of the French metropolis of Lyon and of the Polish city of Lodz.
