Overtaking experiments on four two-lane highways were conducted. The data of overtaking conflict time (the time difference between the time of driving back to the original lane and the time of meeting with the first opposing vehicle) and experimental drivers’ risk feeling were observed. Membership was adopted to denote the experimental drivers’ risk feelings which also denote the severity of traffic conflict. Membership ranges from 0 to 1 and corresponding risk becomes higher; that is, traffic conflict becomes more serious. According to the observed relationship between overtaking conflict time, and drivers’ risk feeling membership, Cauchy distribution function was adopted as membership function. The thresholds of the severity of traffic conflict were determined through Delphi method. The relationship model among traffic volume, overtaking conflict time and design speed was established according to experimental data. Then the idea of setting auxiliary lane on two-lane highway in China was presented. And the traffic volume values that need setting auxiliary lane corresponding to different design speed and traffic conflict degree were given according to the established model. It is expected to improve the traffic safety level of two-lane highway in China through setting auxiliary lane.

The general relationships between hourly accident rates and hourly traffic volume/capacity ( v/c) ratios were examined. A 26 km (16 mi) segment of Interstate I-94 in the Detroit area was selected as the study segment. The v/c ratios were calculated from average hourly traffic volume counts collected in 1993 and 1994 from three permanent count stations. Accident rates were derived from hourly distributed number of accidents in the same 2 years. The correlation between v/c values and accident rates follows a general U-shaped pattern. The study of all observed accidents combined indicates that accident rates are highest in the very low hourly v/c range, decrease rapidly with increasing v/c ratio, and then gradually increase as the v/c ratio continues to increase. U-shaped models also explain the relationship between v/c and accident rates for weekdays and weekend days, multivehicle, rear-end, and property-damage-only accidents. On the other hand, single-vehicle, fixed-object, and turnover accidents, and accidents involving injury and fatality follow a generally decreasing trend with increasing v/c ratio. Traffic conflict is viewed as a major contributing factor to high accident rates observed in the high v/c range, whereas night conditions and driver inattention were identified as explanatory factors for the occurrence of high accident rates in the low v/c ranges.

Political economy and religious policies affect the relationship between sharia and financial authorities. Countries that make Islam as the official religion put Sharia authorities within the scope of the state. Malaysia is one of the countries that put Sharia authorities in the structure of state authority, although it is subject to independency. In the meantime, Indonesia combines the two models of relationship: 1) granting broader independence to sharia authority (the Indonesian Ulema Council) and 2) forming sharia board to deal with sharia finance, among others. The comparison of Indonesian, Malaysian, and the Middle Eastern countries’ system shows that the independence and the effectiveness of sharia economic fatwa application are found to attract each other. This, in turn, influences the supervision of Islamic financial institutions.

Individuals with Problematic Internet Use (PIU) who use the internet excessively, it gave the causes of the difficulties to control using the internet and bad impact of physical and mental disorder.   The research aims to show the relationship among biological, psychological, and social factors with PIU so it can be created some relation model which explain about this phenomenon. Simple random sampling is a sampling technique used of this research. Subjects used of this research were 403 individuals who were in the age of emerging adulthood. Data collection method used in this research is PIU and bio psychosocial scale which consists of three parts are biology, psychology, and social. Based on the data processing, a relationship model among biology, psychology, social, and PIU where the relationship model has a chi square score of 0.102 with a probability score of 0.061, a CMIN / DF score of 1.518, a GFI of 0.919, an AGFI of 0.971, a CFI equal to 1.00, TLI of 0.90, and the score of RMSEA 0.072 so the model was proposed as strong and acceptable category. The model shows strongest relationship is the relationship between social and PIU was 0.47, psychology with PIU was 0.22, and biology with PIU was 0.12.

Right-turn motorized vehicles turn right using channelized islands, which are used to improve the capacity of intersections. For ease of description, these kinds of right-turn motorized vehicles are called advance right-turn motorized vehicles (ARTMVs) in this paper. The authors analyzed four aspects of traffic conflict involving ARTMVs with other forms of traffic flow. A capacity model of ARTMVs is presented here using shockwave theory and gap acceptance theory. The proposed capacity model was validated by comparison to the results of the observations based on data collected at a single intersection with channelized islands in Kunming, the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) model and the VISSIM simulation model. To facilitate engineering applications, the relationship describing the capacity of the ARTMVs with reference to the distance between the conflict zone and the stop line and the relationship describing the capacity of the ARTMVs with reference to the effective red time of the nonmotorized vehicles moving in the same direction were analyzed. The authors compared these results to the capacity of no advance right-turn motorized vehicles (NARTMVs). The results show that the capacity of the ARTMVs is more sensitive to the changes in the arrival rate of nonmotorized vehicles when the arrival rate of the nonmotorized vehicles is 500  (veh/h)~2000  (veh/h) than when the arrival rate is some other value. In addition, the capacity of NARTMVs is greater than the capacity of ARTMVs when the nonmotorized vehicles have a higher arrival rate.

The relationship between the left-turning traffic volume and the storage area at signalised roundabouts is investigated, and a calculation procedure for signal timing is proposed in this paper. The parameters associated with the developing stages of a new expression/model are also defined. Four different signal timing scenarios are considered. The results show that the proposed formula can be used for the design of signalised roundabouts.

In order to analyze the existing problems of temporary reversible lane, traffic flow velocity characteristic at the period of direction changing was analyzed. Taking Huangpu road as the investigation object, the traffic flow velocity parameters before and after direction changing were investigated respectively. By the method of mathematical statistics, the individual vehicles velocities and the traffic flow velocity before and after direction changing were compared and analyzed. Using the method of regression analysis, the relationship model between velocity and density of reversible lane was constructed. This paper also discussed the problems of this kind of lane. The research showed that, in terms of traffic flow operation velocity of temporary reversible lane, there is obvious and regular difference between before and after direction changing. There is a certain relationship between the velocity and density. The problem of lower lane utilization ratio of temporary reversible lane usually exists.

Abstract The article presents the results of a thematic analysis of statements about polyamory made in the media by Polish psychology and sexology experts. The analysis was conducted on the basis of 20 pieces of material released in the Polish national press, radio, and television between July 2012 and October 2018. The results show that most of the analyzed experts approach polyamory with suspicion. In most cases, the decision to be in a polyamorous relationship is assessed very negatively, and in the eyes of the therapists it is evidence of psychological defects in people who make such attempts or it is seen as a harbinger of unfavorable outcomes for the relationship. This negative psychological evaluation is often accompanied by a strong moral assessment and a clear willingness to discourage society from this relationship model. The results show that representatives of psychology and medical sciences in the Polish media support and legitimize the social and moral order that promotes mono-normativity. The true reasons for the aforementioned negative assessment are hidden behind a veil of scientific objectivity.
