Supplier selection (SS), which is a critical stage of supply chain management (SCM), is no longer evaluated solely from the perspective of traditional criteria, due to increasing environmental problems and ethical concerns. In this study, a multidimensional approach including environmental, economic, social, and competency concepts was proposed to evaluate SS, and an integrated approach based on Best Worst Method (BWM) and fuzzy TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese of Interactive and Multi-criteria Decision Making) techniques was developed. In the developed approach, BWM was used to first obtain the importance level of the criteria and then to rank the suppliers with fuzzy TODIM. The proposed approach was tested on an automotive company in Turkey. The outcomes of the analysis revealed that the most important main criteria for SS are economic (0.377) and environmental criteria (0.290). In addition, the sub-criteria with the highest criteria weight were listed as product cost (0.120), on-time delivery (0.112), quality control (0.094), logistics costs (0.069), management commitment (0.054), and flexibility (0.054). The results of this study offer theoretical and practical outputs to companies that want to improve their SS process, selection of suppliers, and contributions of the researchers working on the topic.

In today’s highly competitive business market, the issue of sustainable supplier selection attracts great attention due to increased awareness of both social and environmental issues. The power of companies in the supply chain is determined not only by their own performance, but also by the power of other actors in the chain. As a field of study, the selection of sustainable suppliers remains its popularity because it requires developing a systematic procedure that addresses conflicting quantifiable and non-quantifiable factors simultaneously. In this study, one of the advanced fuzzy approaches called Spherical Fuzzy Sets (SFS) has been used to prioritize criteria that affect sustainable supplier selection. The proposed methodology combines the Spherical Fuzzy Sets and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and takes into account four main criteria: economic, quality, social and environmental criteria. In order to prioritize the main and sub criteria, questionnaires were conducted with three experts who have valuable experience in this field of study. After then, for the selection of the best sustainable supplier, a real selection problem in an international company was handled. The figured out ranking of the criteria and supplier alternatives can be used as a guide by the researchers and industrial experts who are responsible for sustainable supplier selection. To measure how much unit increase in weights assigned to key criteria affects supplier selection, a sensitivity analysis was carried out. It was noticed that the selection procedure for the selected company is not highly sensitive to changes.

Presently, environmental management for companies emphasizing environmental protection has become one of the most critical issues for customers, shareholders, governments, employees, competitors, and global pressures requiring organizations to produce environmentally-friendly products and services. This challenge has created a new concept called green supply chain management in business, which combines environmental thinking with the supply chain. Selection of suppliers by considering risk criteria is a category that has attracted the attention of a large number of researchers in order to select the best suppliers according to uncertain factors. In this research, we aim to select a green supplier considering risk factors using a new MCDM approach under uncertainty. For this selection problem, HF-MAIRCA, a new multicriteria sorting method for many alternatives, has been developed. This is used for sorting the alternatives into predefined, ordered supplier categories. This sorting method can be applied to different environmental problems that have a large number of alternatives. As a result of Iran’s case study, the result shows that materials flexibility and materials quality are essential criteria for green supplier selection.

This study aims to investigate patterns of decision-making and responsibility-taking as opposed to the compulsion process selection of a criminal lifestyle among women in prison. A life story approach and semi-structured interviews sampling 30 Israeli women in prison during their first imprisonment were used. Using a mixed-method, results revealed that most of the participants claimed full or partial self-responsibility for having engaged in a criminal lifestyle or for the offense of which they had been convicted. This figure was consistent when the participants were divided by age of first offense or a history of abuse. The results support the need for an integrated approach explaining women’s criminal paths, including gender-specific as well as gender-neutral factors. The conclusion is that responsibility-taking for a criminal act should be one of the factors in intervention programs for women with delinquent behavior, regardless of whether there is a history of victimization or not.

In the past few decades, there has been lot of focus on the issue of sustainability. This has occurred due to the growing concerns related to climate change and the growing awareness about environmental concerns. Also, the competition at global level has led to the search for the most sustainable route in the industries. The current research work deals with the selection of green supplier in a Nickle coating industry based on certain weighted green attributes. For this purpose, a hybrid tool comprising of Fuzzy AHP (Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy) and VIKOR (VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje) is used. The Fuzzy AHP is used for assigning proper weights to the selected criteria for supplier evaluation, while VIKOR is used for final supplier selection based on the weighted criteria. The three criterions for green supplier selection are, Ecological packaging, Corporate socio-environmental responsibility and Staff Training. The outcome of the integrated model may serve as a steppingstone to other SMEs in different sectors for selecting the most suitable supplier for addressing the sustainability issue.

PurposeDue to stern management policies and increased community attentiveness, sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) performs a vast component in endeavor operation and production management. Sustainable circular supplier selection (SCSS) and evaluation presented the environmental and social concerns in the fields of circular economy and sustainable supplier selection. Choosing the optimal SCSS is vital for organizations to persuade SSCM, as specified in various researches. Based on the subjectivity of human behavior, the selection of ideal SCSS often involves uncertain information, and the Pythagorean fuzzy sets (PFSs) have a huge capability to tackle strong vagueness, uncertainty and inaccuracy in the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) procedure. Here, a framework is developed to assess and establish suitable suppliers in the SSCM and the circular economy.Design/methodology/approachThis paper introduced an extended framework using the evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS) with PFSs and implemented it to solve the SCSS in the manufacturing sector. Firstly, the PFSs to handle the uncertain information of decision experts (DEs) is employed. Secondly, a novel divergence measure and parametric score function for calculating the criteria weights are proposed. Thirdly, an extended decision-making approach, known as PF-EDAS, is introduced.FindingsThe outcomes and comparative discussion show that the developed method is efficient and capable of facilitating the DEs to choose desirable SCSS. Therefore, the proposed framework can be used by organizations to assess and establish suitable suppliers in the SCSS process in the circular economy.Originality/valueSelecting the optimal sustainable circular supplier (SCS) in the manufacturing sector is important for organizations to persuade SSCM, as specified in various research.
