Over 70 000 000 people in Indonesia have no access to electricity. This study was carried out in Bawean Islands which are located in the Java Sea about 150 km North of Surabaya, the headquarters of East Java. The study to determine the energy services available in the Bawean Island was done through interviewing a random sample of 72 households in two villages namely Komalasa and Lebak. Based on the average monthly electricity consumption of the sampled households connected to the grid, a hybrid renewable energy based electrical supply system was designed for Gili Timur Island, one of the satellite islands around Bawean Island. The system was designed with the aid of a time step simulation software used to design and analyze hybrid power systems. A sensitivity analysis was also carried out on the optimum system to study the effects of variation in some of the system variables. HOMER suggests that for the expected peak load of 131 kW, an optimum system will consist of 150 kW from PV array, two wind turbines each rated 10 kW, a 75 kW diesel generator and batteries for storage.

This article describes the analysis and design of the excitation schemes of the plasmonic angular ring resonator-based band-pass filters using a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide. The excitation schemes of the plasmonic angular ring resonator-based band-pass filters have been analyzed in terms of their physical length by using commercially available electromagnetic full-wave simulation software (CST microwave studio). The excitation schemes of the plasmonic angular ring resonator-based band-pass filter using a MIM waveguide have been realized at the optical O (1260–1360 nm) and U (1625–1675 nm) bands, respectively, as it has dual-band characteristics. The excitation schemes of the plasmonic angular ring resonators have been designed and simulated to determine the variation in transmission and reflection coefficients. The magnetic field distribution of the proposed filters was observed. The ring resonators require low power and had a compact size, which was further used for the development of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The applications of these resonators are further extended and they are used in the development of antennas, branch line couplers, directional couplers and diplexers.

With the development of electromagnetic simulation software and affordable hardware, it is allowed for us to complete simulations for EMC purposes. However, simulation demands will be immense when simulations for models with complex structures, especially aircraft components, have to be solved. Hence, it is meaningful to investigate how to minimize the computational demands. One of the solutions to reduce the simulation expense is the simplification for the simulated model. But the simplified model should be guaranteed to provide credible simulation results which do not deviate from the original model apparently. Generally, the difference between the simulation results and experimental data is estimated, or if the experimental conditions are not achieved, the comparison between the simplified model and the original one has to be analyzed, at least. This paper explores the electromagnetic simulation of a turbofan engine encountering lightning strike. With the simplifications of different components on the turbofan engine, the influences on induced currents of engine controller cables are simulated and analyzed based on the transmission-line matrix method. A combining method of components removal and geometric structure simplification is proposed to simplify the whole engine model. Simplified components include compressor, combustion chamber, turbine, and nozzle. The effects of different simplification methods are quantified, and the rationality of the simplified model is verified by simulation analysis.

A printed inverted-F antenna for RFID tag at 5.8 GHz is designed in this paper. The antenna structure consists of an inverted-F patch, a substrate layer, and a ground plane. To reduce costs, the FR4 is selected as the material of substrate layer, which is used commonly in PCB (Printed Circuit Board). Its relative permittivity is 4.4 and a loss tangent is 0.02. The inverted-F patch and ground plane are laid on/under the substrate layer respectively. The designed antenna is modeled, simulated and optimized by using HFSS (high frequency electromagnetic simulation software). Simulation results demonstrate that the printed inverted-F antenna can satisfy the requirements of RFID Tag applications.

CPS (control and protective switching) one of the smart integrated include the function of circuit breakers, contactors, and low-voltage electrical appliances. The contact system is different from the traditional low-voltage electrical function. Well-designed structure of the contact system has important practical significance for overall performance of CPS. The paper proposes a new contact system. The simulation analyze the electrical repulsion of the traditional contact system and a new contact system under different current size, breaking time, blowing arc magnetic field analysis by electromagnetic simulation software. According to the results of the simulation comparison, prove that the new contactor structure making the function of CPS increased.

The probe-fed rectangular patch antenna with the Minkowski fractal structure which for 2.45GHz was simulated by using high frequency electromagnetic simulation software HFSS V11.The Simulation results showed that it was similar to side-fed square patch antenna with the Minkowski fractal structure. The resonant frequency decreased with fractal iteration, and the size of the antenna could be miniaturized. And antenna pattern unchanged with fractal iteration mostly, which meet the application requirements basically.

Abstract This project developed a study on methods to increase downforce on the university’s Formula SAE vehicle by implementing a lightweight, efficient aerodynamic design. The team planned to improve the performance and reduce lap times of the vehicle with an undertray, which grants better wheel traction and stability while handling corners. Upon completion, the aerodynamic component would have allowed the PNW Motorsports team to more effectively compete at the FSAE design competition in the spring of 2020. While reducing drag, an undertray provides the capability to direct the air beneath the vehicle chassis in a way which adds “artificial weight” to the system. A pressure gradient of high magnitude is established between the two sides of the undertray, with a low negative pressure region found beneath the body. This design is based upon the principles of fluid dynamics, in particular the venturi effect through the use of nozzles and diffusers. In this fashion, the vehicle can receive the benefits of a heavier car around corners while maintaining the higher straight-line acceleration of a lighter car. This report describes the use of simulation software in the design of an undertray, as well as the approach to manufacture it. Two-dimensional benchmark cases were performed in the replication of results obtained in a literature search. Subsequently, the undertray model was optimized with CFD and FEA/FEM techniques to obtain a component that was prepared for manufacturing. An operating procedure was established to outline the complicated steps of its assembly. Finally, it provides future aerodynamics teams with a solid foundation upon which improvements can be made.

This paper tries to use systematic approaches for analysis and design of the construction supply chain operation model. According to the Supply Chain Operations Reference Model, SCOR Model of Supply Chain Council, SCC in 1996 and based on this model and application to the SCOR Model, this research places focus on the supplydemand behaviors of the Taiwan High Speed Railroad (HSR) construction process as a case study. This paper uses the concept of SCOR Model and appliance to Dynamic Simulation software, namely, SIMPROCESS, trying to assist in establishing a hierarchical model to explore the behavior of construction supply chain process and developing a performance evaluation method which can help improve supply chain management (SCM) of the construction project.
