ABSTRACTThe series resistance limits the linearity of photodiodes and decreases the efficiency of solar cells. It is usually determined from IV-measurements for moderate and high forward current density. This method, however, provides only partial information about Rs, since the series resistance depends on the operating point. An alternative method is based on noise measurements. System noise of the measuring system with a low-noise current-voltage converter has been investigated. A new method for extraction of photodiode series resistance from noise measurements is suggested. Noise measurements are carried out for a-Si:H pin diodes. The series resistance of an amorphous pin diode has been extracted for different operating conditions using the new measurement method.

This paper presents a low power Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) using 0.18µm CMOS technology for ultra wide band (UWB) applications. gm boosting common gate (CG) LNA is designed to improve the noise performance.  For the reduction of on chip area, active inductor is employed at the input side of the designed LNA for input impedance matching. The proposed UWB LNA is designed using Advanced Design System (ADS) at UWB frequency of 3.1-10.6 GHz. Simulation results show that the gain of 10.74+ 0.01 dB, noise figure is 4.855 dB, input return loss <-13 dB and 12.5 mW power consumption.

Abstract For railways speed up such as 350km/h, it is particularly important to reduce noise caused by current collector for environmental problem. For a solution, a diamond shaped low-noise current collector has been developed. However, it becomes difficult for the current collector to maintain the predetermined contact force between the contact strip and the trolley-wire. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the active control to keep the contact force uniform. However, there is a serious problem for the active control that it is difficult to put sensors in high voltage region. In this paper, an application of plastic optical fiber sensor is devised and it is applied to the control system. In the experiment, the usefulness of the proposed sensor and control system is demonstrated.
