Some of the problems experienced since the electrification of the line from Weaver Junction to Glasgow are described and the solutions adopted explained. These include the failure of the overhead line at neutral sections, rail damage caused by high axle loads, tyre damage due to braking problems, loss of adhesion on gradients and improvements to the sanding gear. The paper concludes with a section on the problems of the thyristor locomotive.
