AbstractVoltage sag or voltage dips are significant to industrial reliability. There is a necessity to characterize the feeder level power quality (PQ) and the PQ performance among various utility companies. Contamination/pollution induced flashover is the ultimate consequence of the creeping discharges across the insulator strings which induce voltage sag. These have a severe threat on the safe and reliable operation of power systems. In the present work an attempt has been made to experimentally investigate the occurrence of voltage sag/dips during pollution induced flashovers. Results show significant dip/sag in the voltage magnitude during the flashover process.

Power quality problems could cause enormous amounts of economic cost to electricity consumers. Taking voltage dips as an example, this paper presents a general overview of methods to quantify economic impact of power quality problems. It also presents in detail several ways how to collect power quality economic data. At last, suggestions on how such researches could be done in China are represented.

The paper shows how the surveying of power quality in microgrids working under unbalanced harmonic distorted operating states with possible voltage dips and voltage swells existence can be accomplished implying a small amount of time and measurement activities. The surveying methodology uses the disturbances propagation phenomenon to determine the power quality indices in all of interest nodes of the microgrid utilizing the voltages and currents characteristics in one or several strategic nodes. The disturbances propagation is based on the sequence component theory applied for all detected harmonics and for the microgrids components. The proposed surveying methodology was implemented in a virtual instrument capable to acquire the voltages and currents waveforms, to analyze them in order to identify the disturbances characteristics, to calculate the disturbances propagation and display the power quality indices in all of interest nodes of the microgrid. The virtual instrument was tested using several microgrid topologies and scenarios.

Whenever a fault occurs at any stage of the power system, the magnitude of voltage and phase angle both are changed. In the distribution system, there are sensitive loads such as digital computers; motor drives, etc are connected with a system. Due to fault conditions, unbalancing in voltage may occur. So it may cause of damage to equipment. Fault in the distribution system may lead to a voltage dip in the system; it is the big problem of power quality. So it more important to understand the power quality and it is also important to analyze voltage dip propagation when different types of faults occur in the system. This research paper summarizes the results from a number of different voltage dips investigations and their verification of mathematical calculations. These investigations involve characterizing the voltage dips performance.

This paper addresses the effects of electric power quality on robotic operations. A general overview is reported to highlight the main characteristics of electric power quality and it’s effects on a powered system by considering an end-user’s viewpoint. Then, the authors outline the influence of voltage dip effects by focusing on robotic grasping applications. A specific case study is reported, namely that of LARM Hand IV, a three-fingered robotic hand which has been designed and built at LARM in Cassino, Italy. A dedicated test rig has been developed and set up to generate predefined voltage dips. Experimental tests are carried out to evaluate the effects of different types of voltage dip on the grasping of objects.

The different power quality phenomena may have characteristics quite different from each other in terms of amplitude, duration, repetition, effects on the system elements, perception of users, etc. Events like interruptions and voltage dips and swells are characterized as phenomena where the root mean square (rms) value of the supply voltage falls below or rises above a prefixed threshold. Description of three-phase measurement device for detecting voltage dips and swells in electric power network is given in this paper. The device has been tested on a real electric power network and practical results of measurement are given.
