A simple, mild, green and efficient method for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzamides was highly desired in organic synthesis. Herein, we developed an efficient, one-pot strategy for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzamides with high yields irradiated by UV light. 32 examples proceeded successfully by this photo-induced protocol. The yield reached up to 92%. The gram scale was also achieved easily. This building block could be applied in the preparation of quinazolinones derivatives. Amino acid derivatives could be employed smoothly at room temperature. Finally, a plausible mechanism was proposed.

The Doctoral Thesis has been prepared as a collection of thematically related scientific publications comprising five publications in the SCI journals, one patent of the Republic of Latvia, and one application for patent of the Republic of Latvia. We have carried out fundamental research on the applications of SO2 as a solvent and reagent in organic synthesis. We have developed several novel synthetic methods that represent the use of liquid SO2 as a solvent for chemical transformations that proceed via carbenium ion intermediates: a) hydration of aryl acetylenes; b) hydrohalogenation of aryl acetylenes; c) ring opening of methylenecyclopropanes with halides; d) glycosylation with glycosyl fluorides. By employing DABSO as an SO2 surrogate, we have also discovered the catalytic activity of Ru(II) complexes towards sulfonylative cross coupling reaction. This finding has been applied for the synthesis of sulfonyl derived compounds.

We explored parents’ views of the trajectories of their adult children’s eventual deaths from drugs with in-depth qualitative interviews from 11 bereaved parents. Parents reported great emotional distress and high financial burdens as their children went through death spirals of increasing drug involvements. These deaths often entailed anxiety-inducing interactions with police or medical personnel, subsequent difficulties with sharing death cause information with socially significant others, and longer term problems from routine interactions. Eventually, though, many of these longer term bereaved parents reported overcoming these obstacles and developing posttraumatic growth. Openly disclosing the nature of the death seemed to be an important building block for their healing.

A novel building block in organic synthesis, poly (4-iodobutoxylmethylsiloxane)(PIBMS) with high reaction activity was prepared by poly (hydromethylsiloxane)(PHMS), methyl iodide and tetrahydrofuran (THF) in the presence of a catalytic amount of PdCl2. The structure of PIBMS was characterized by the FT-IR and NMR spectra. The reaction conditions were optimized.
