The synthesis of a novelzinc doped chitosan-hydroxyapatite (chitosan-HAp) composite was done viain situ co-precipitation method. FTIR results showed that zinc is incorporated into the composite formed and is less crystalline compared to the pure hydroxyapatite (HAp). XRD results obtained showed that the incorporation of zinc into the lattice of the chitosan-HAp led to changes in the crystallinity, crystallite size and lattice constant of the composite material. FESEM images of the samples revealed that the novel material has a morphological features that resemble that of bone mineral.

In-situ polymer coated LiFePO4-C composite material has been synthesized using different oxidizing agents viz. (NH4)2S2O8, KMnO4 and K2Cr2O7. Polyaniline (PANI) with chains having diameter ≤ 200 nm have been grown separately by self oxidation process of aniline monomers using the above oxidizing agents. For the synthesis of LiFePO4-C active material, initially raw material FePO4/PANI has been synthesized by chemical precipitation method and added with LiCOOCH3 followed by heat treatment at 700°C under reducing (Ar/H2=90/10) atmosphere for 16 hrs. The synthesized LiFePO4-C material has particle size of about 100 nm. The polymer coated LiFePO4-C composite was synthesized by undergoing in-situ polymerization of aniline monomers added with fixed quantity of LiFePO4-C. XRD analysis reveals formation of single phase pure active material LiFePO4-C and mixed phase containing LiFePO4 to FePO4 for polymer coated LiFePO4-C composite. The carbon content in the LiFePO4-C was estimated to be 5 wt%, however, the PANI content in the composites was different with different oxidizing agent. These PANI contents in the composites synthesized with (NH4)2S2O8, KMnO4 and K2Cr2O7 are 14, 15 and 17 wt% respectively which have been estimated by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) of the materials. Electrical conductivities of the composite materials were determined by Impedance spectroscopy method. The composite material synthesized with (NH4)2S2O8 has higher conductivity compared to those synthesized with KMnO4 and K2Cr2O7. The higher conductivity of the composite synthesized with (NH4)2S2O8 may be attributed to the presence of partial chain structure in polymer coating as seen by microstructural observations on the composite.

The main purpose of this research is to study the microstructure and thermal properties of geopolymers by adding ZnO as a functional composite. Functional composite materials synthesized by alkali activation, using metalempung as the base material and ZnO as aggregate. ZnO was synthesized from ZnSO4 using the precipitation method. The addition of ZnO mass in geopolymer paste was varied from 0.10g; 0.20g; and 0.30g. X-Ray Difraction (XRD) was used to determine the phase formed in functional composite material. The thermal characteristic of the samples was examined by means of Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The results showed that the composition of ZnO did have a significant effect on changes in microstructure sample. In this study, the synthesis and characterization of a biomagnetic composite material was achieved by a simple and cost effective method. Tomato processing waste was successfully converted into a magnetic material via embedding Fe3O4 nanoparticles to its structure. Due to its low cost and ease of application, co-precipitation method was used for loading the magnetite nanoparticles. Characterization studies were carried out with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer spectroscopy and the outcomes of the analyses of non-magnetic and magnetic material were compared.

Abstract Here, the novel Ag 2 MoO 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 ( AMO/BWO ) heterojunction composite photocatalysts were synthesized by a two-step method (co-precipitation method + hydrothermal method) and characterized by a variety of characterization techniques including XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, UV-vis DR spectroscopy, PL spectroscopy and FTIR spectroscopy, as well as EIS analyses, and photocurrent response for confirming the formation of Z-type heterojunctions. The generation and transfer of electron/holes in the AMO/BWO heterojunctions excited by simulated sunlight were analyzed. Under simulated sunlight, the photocatalytic performance of AMO/BWO composites were studied by degradation of organic pollutants. The experimental results show that the 30wt%AMO@BWO is the best photocatalytic composite material among all samples. Due to the prolonging of lifetime of the photoexcited electrons in the CB of AMO and holes in the VB of BWO, these carriers are more effective to participate in photodegradation reactions. An electron/hole transfer mechanism of the Z-scheme heterojunctions is proposed to illustrate the enhanced photodegradation performance of the AMO/BWO composite samples.

In this research work, we have produced a composite material consisting titanium dioxide (TiO2) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures via precipitation method. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study has shown the mixture of nanostructures consisting nanorods and nano flower. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) study has confirmed the presence of Ti, Zn and O as main elements in the composite. X-ray diffraction (XRD) study has revealed that the successful presence of TiO2 and ZnO in the composite. The composite material exhibits small optical energy band gap which led to reduction of the charge recombination rate of electron–hole pairs. The band gap for the composite TiO2/ZnO samples namely 1, 2, 3 and 4 is 3.18, 3.00, 2.97 and 2.83 eV respectively. Small optical bandgap gives less relaxation time for the recombination of electron and hole pairs, thus favorable photodegradation is found. The degradation efficiency for the TiO2/ZnO samples for methylene blue in order of 55.03%, 75.7%, 85.14% and 90.08% is found for the samples 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. In order to improve the mechanical properties of an intermetal1ic compound TiAl, a composite material of TiAl involving a second phase Ti2AIN was prepared by a new combustion reaction method. It is found that Ti2AIN (hexagonal structure) is a rod shape as shown in Fig.1 and its side surface is almost parallel to the basal plane, and this composite material has distinguished strength at elevated temperature and considerable toughness at room temperature comparing with TiAl single phase material. Since the property of the interface of composite materials has strong influences to their mechanical properties, the structure of the interface of intermetallic compound and nitride on the areas corresponding to 2, 3 and 4 as shown in Fig.1 was investigated using high resolution electron microscopy and image processing.

The addition of fibres or particles (TiB2, SiC etc.) into TiAl intermetallic alloys could increase their toughness without compromising their good high temperature mechanical and chemical properties. This paper briefly discribes the microstructure developed by a TiAl/TiB2 composite material fabricated with the XD™ process and forged at 960°C.The specimens for transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were prepared in the usual way (i.e. diamond polishing and argon ion beam thinning) and examined on a JEOL 4000EX for microstucture and on a Philips 400T equipped with a SiLi detector for microanalyses.The matrix was predominantly γ (TiAl with L10 structure) and α2(TisAl with DO 19 structure) phases with various morphologies shown in figure 1.
