There has been an increasing interest in blockchain technology from the health care sector in the last couple of years. The value proposition for using blockchain technology in the health care sector is to share sensitive patient data among health care entities securely and to empower patients. Blockchain technology allows patients to have an active role in developing and updating their own patient data. However, is blockchain technology really the silver bullet it seems to be? With this paper, we aim to understand the benefits and challenges of blockchain technology in the health care sector. We discuss innovation and security implications concerning blockchain technology in health care. Furthermore, we show that there is a need for more use cases to ensure the secure sharing of data within the health care sector. In our opinion, blockchain technology will not solve the issues encountered by the health care sector; in fact, it may raise more issues than it will solve.

The National Oral Health Policy (NOHP) arose as an alternativefor the improvement of oral healthcare to all Brazilians. On theperspective of specialized care, Dental Specialties Centers(DSC) were implemented. Aim: The aim of this manuscriptwas the analysis the role of the DSC for the organization of theOral Health Care Network (OHCN) in the 20th Regional HealthSection (RHS) of Paraná. Methods: It is a qualitative study,which analyzed the role performed by the regional DSC TypeIII, a reference for 18 municipalities. The data were collectedthrough interviews carried out in the period between Marchand April 2019. Fourteen professional dentist-surgeons, ninefrom Basic Health Units (BHU) and five from the DSC wereinterviewed. For data analysis, speech analysis was used.Results: An active role of the regional DSC was identified inthis healthcare region, as it acts as a fundamental point in thestrengthening of the network, in the process of regionalizationand in the integrality of care. Conclusions: However, theimportance of broadening the access to specialized careneeds to be highlighted, to guarantee the continuity of carestarted at the BHU.

ABSTRACT Objective: To report the experience of the nursing supervised curricular internship in the program “O Brasil Conta Comigo” carried out in the Covid-19 pandemic. Method: Experience report of activities developed in Primary Health Care in a municipality in the southern region of the state of Goiás during the Covid-19 pandemic, from April to November 2020. Results: The inclusion in the government program allowed the strengthening of the student’s active role in the teaching-learning process and teaching-service approximation, with the student as the point of connection, which resulted in the implementation of actions for the fight against the pandemic in the municipality, such as elaboration, implementation, and evaluation of the service flowchart for people with suspected Covid-19. Conclusion: The experience was successful, as it consolidated knowledge regarding leadership and autonomy, integration between theory and practice, critical thinking, and evidence-based problem solving. The participation in the program allowed for contributions to assistance and management in the actions to combat the new coronavirus in the scope of primary care, as well as for the contribution to the training of the student tutored by nurses in the field and supervised by professors from the federal university of origin.

Adherence to treatment in psychiatry is pivotal for achieving and maintaining good health outcomes. Yet, despite the vast amount of research into adherence, treatment adherence remains suboptimal. There is a need for everyone to take an active role in addressing non-adherence if we are to realize the full benefits of available treatments. This chapter introduces the concept of adherence and discusses the factors influencing adherence in psychiatry. The adherence literature is then reviewed, and results from past adherence interventions summarized to explain why non-adherence occurs from an individual patient perspective. A perceptions and practicalities approach to adherence is then presented to help guide the design and delivery of patient-centred adherence support. This chapter serves as a practical guide to adherence for health care providers and others interested in supporting adherence to treatment in psychiatry.

Background: The study focused on perceptions of older adults toward the healthcare processes they experienced during a clinical trial for back pain that involved family medicine residents and licensed chiropractors. Methods: Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with 115 older adults after a 12-week, 3-arm, randomized controlled trial. Two researchers conducted thematic analysis with inductive coding using qualitative software to identify participants’ salient experiences of the doctor–patient relationship, healthcare process, and collaboration between study providers. Investigators categorized thematic codes within an existing framework of clinical excellence in primary care. Results: Participants emphasized provider communication and interpersonal relationships, professionalism and passion for patient care, clinical and diagnostic acumen, and skillful negotiation of the health-care system. Older adults also described the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and their preferences for receiving hands-on treatments for musculoskeletal conditions. Conclusion: These older adults valued doctors who communicated clearly and spent time listening to their concerns. Many participants appreciated clinicians who supported an active role for patients in their health-care and who provided touch-based care for musculoskeletal conditions.
