A pyrazolopyrimidine-based fluorescent sensor L was developed and applied for detection of Cu2+ and Ni2+ in ethanol solution by photoluminescence quenching. It shows low cytotoxicity and good imaging characteristics for Cu2+ and Ni2+ in living cells.
