The AlCl3/Ti co-doped 4MgH2-Li3AlH6 has been successfully synthesized using solid ball-milled method. The effect of AlCl3/Ti and different preparation conditions on reversible hydrogen storage of 4MgH2-Li3AlH6 were investigated. It was found that the formed Al3Ti and Al can improve the de/rehydriding performance. The onset temperature of the system dehydrogenation decreased to 58 °C, and it can release hydrogen of 7.2 wt.% at 400 °C. The hydriding of the system was found that the adsorption rate greatly increased from 0.02 to 0.35 wt.% min-1. The activation energy (Ea) of MgH2 dehydrogenation decreased from 147 to 113.7 kJ mol-1 by adding additive AlCl3 and Ti. The AlCl3/Ti improved the thermodynamic and kinetic performance of the 4MgH2-Li3AlH6 composite, which was attributed to the high catalytic activity of Al3Ti and Al.

Recently, a so-called `crown-jewel' concept of preparation of Au/Pd-based colloidal nanoclusters has been reported [Zhang, Watanabe, Okumura, Haruta & Toshima (2011).Nat. Mater.11, 49–52]. Here, a different way of preparing highly active Au/Pd-based nanoclusters is presented. The origin of the increased activity of Au/Pd-based colloidal bimetallic nanoclusters was unclear up to now. However, it is, in general, accepted that in the nanometre range (1–100 nm) the cluster size, shape and composition affect the structural characteristics (e.g.lattice symmetry, unit cell), electronic properties (e.g.band gap) and chemical properties (e.g.catalytic activity) of a material. Hence, a detailed study of the relationship between the nanostructure of nanoclusters and their catalytic activity is presented here. The results indicate that a high surface-to-volume ratio of the nanoclusters combined with the presence of `both' Au and Pd isolated regions at the surface are crucial to achieve a high catalytic activity. A detailed structure elucidation directly leads to a mechanistic proposal, which indeed explains the higher catalytic activity of Au/Pd-based catalysts compared with pure metallic Au or Pd. The mechanism is based on cascade catalysis induced by a single type of nanoparticle with an intermixed surface of Au and Pd.

Abstract In this study, green synthesis of silver /silver oxide nanoparticles was successfully prepared from Phoenix Dactylifera L aqueous leaves extract. The effect of different volume ratio (% v/v) (Plant extract / Precursor) on the nanoparticles silver /silver oxide nanoparticles formation, optical properties, and catalytic activity for dye degradation was studied. The obtained Ag/Ag2O nanoparticles were characterized using various techniques, such as UV-Visible, FT-IR, XRD, SEM for this purpose. The UV-Vis spectrum shows the absorption at 430 nm associated with Ag/Ag2O NPs. The optical bandgap values were found to be in the range of 3.22 to 4.47 eV for the direct bandgap and 3.73 to 5.23 eV for the indirect bandgap. The functional groups present in plant extracts were studied by FTIR. XRD confirmed the crystalline nature of Ag / Ag2O NP, and its average particle size was between 28.66-39.40 nm. SEM showed that the green synthesized silver/silver oxide nanoparticles have a spherical shape. The purpose of this study, it highlights the high catalytic activity for dye degradation of Ag/Ag2O NPs green synthesized. As a result, the use of Phoenix Dactylifera L aqueous leaves extract offers a cost-effective and eco-friendly method.
