A new Ag NP-loaded organic molecular cage, which can act as a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the selective reduction of nitroarenes to azo compounds under visible light irradiation, is reported.

The photocatalytic reduction of nitroaromatics on Ag–Cu alloy NPs can maintain the selectivity to azoxy compounds, whereas Ag NPs mainly obtain azo compounds.

The micro/nano-structure composite SiO2@Ag/AgCl was employed as a low cost photocatalyst for the degradation of RhB in aqueous solution under visible light irradiation, which exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance and stability.
