Shell spinel LiNi[Formula: see text]Mn[Formula: see text]O4 hollow microspheres were successfully synthesized by MnCO3 template, and characterized by XRD, SEM, and TEM. The results show that the hollow LiNi[Formula: see text]Mn[Formula: see text]O4 cathode has good cycle stability to reach 124.5, 119.8, and 96.6[Formula: see text]mAh/g at 0.5, 1, and 5 C, the corresponding retention rate of 98.1%, 98.2%, and 98.0% after 50 cycles at 20[Formula: see text]C, and the reversible capacity of 94.6[Formula: see text]mAh/g can be obtained at 1 C rate at 55[Formula: see text]C, 83.3% retention after 100 cycles. As the temperature decreases from 10[Formula: see text]C to [Formula: see text]C, the resistance of [Formula: see text] increases from 5.5 [Formula: see text] to 135 [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] from 27 [Formula: see text] to 353.2 [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text] from 12.7 [Formula: see text] to 73.0 [Formula: see text]. Moreover, the B constant and [Formula: see text] activation energy are 4480[Formula: see text]K and 37.22[Formula: see text]KJ/mol for the NTC spinel material, respectively.

Titania/carbon composite hollow microspheres with bimodal mesoporous shells are one-pot fabricated by hydrothermal treatment of the acidic (NH4)2TiF6aqueous solution in the presence of glucose at180∘C for 24 h and then calcined at450∘C. The as-prepared samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, HRTEM, UV-visible spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. The photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared samples was evaluated by daylight-induced photocatalytic decolorization of methyl orange aqueous solution at ambient temperature. The effects of calcination time on the morphology, phase structure, crystallite size, specific surface area, pore structures, and photocatalytic activity of the microspheres were investigated. The results indicated that the as-obtained TiO2/C composite hollow spheres generally exhibit bimodal mesopore size distribution with their peak intra-aggregated mesopore size in the range of 2.3–4.5 nm and peak interaggregated mesopore size in the range of 5.7–12.7 nm, depending on specific calcination time. The daylight-induced photoactivity of as-obtained hollow TiO2/C microspheres generally exceeds that of Degussa P25. The influences of calcination time on the photoactivity are discussed in terms of carbon content, phase structures, and pore structures.

Zirconium dioxide hollow microspheres were prepared using carbonaceous polysaccharide microspheres as a template through a heterogeneously nucleating wrapping technique. Firstly, carbonaceous microspheres wrapped by ZrO2 were synthesized, and then the obtained precursor was calcinated at 800°C for 2 hours to remove the template. Based on SEM, TEM and EDS analysis, the microstructure, composition and thermal decomposition process of the precursor as well as the final products were investigated. The formation mechanisms of the core-shell structure precursor and the hollow microspheres were also discussed.

A chemical modification by grafting alkyl chains using an octanal (C8) on chitosan was conducted with the aim to improve its water resistance for bonding applications. The chemical structure of the modified polymers was determined by NMR analyses revealing two alkylation degrees (10 and 15%). In this study, the flow properties of alkyl-chitosans were also evaluated. An increase in the viscosity was observed in alkyl-chitosan solutions compared with solutions of the same concentration based on native chitosan. Moreover, the evaluation of the adhesive strength (bond strength and shear stress) of both native and alkyl-chitosans was performed on two different double-lap adherends (aluminum and wood). Alkyl-chitosans (10 and 15%) maintain sufficient adhesive properties on wood and exhibit better water resistance compared to native chitosan.

Uniform Y2O3 hollow microspheres have been successfully prepared via a urea-based homogeneous precipitation technique with colloidal carbon spheres as template followed by a subsequent calcination process. The template can be effectively removed and the amorphous precursor has converted to crystalline Y2O3 during the annealing process. SEM images indicate that the hollow spheres inherit the spherical shape and good dispersion of the templates, and the shell of the hollow spheres is composed of a large amount of uniform nanoparticles. The lanthanide activator ion Ln3+-doped Y2O3 hollow microspheres exhibit bright upconversion luminescence with different colors under 980 nm light excitation, which may find potential applications in the fields such as light phosphor powders, advanced flat panel displays, or drug delivery.
