As an energy-efficient surface modification method, self-assembly has been the subject of extensive research. However, its application on carbon film has been rarely reported. In the present work, a novel self-assembled reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was prepared on a-C:H film by a controllable self-assembly method, and the friction behavior of the RGO/a-C:H film was investigated under vacuum environment. Interestingly, the RGO/a-C:H film exhibited significant improvement of anti-wear ability in vacuum conditions under a high applied load of 5 N. As expected, the synergy lubrication effect of the RGO layer and a-C:H film should account for the excellent friction reduction and anti-wear ability of a RGO/a-C:H multilayer film.

Multilayer nanostructural thin films through a layer-by-layer spin self-assembly method were prepared using poly(p-phenylene vinylene)/montmorillonite. Sodium montmorillonite particles exfoliated into single sheets and cationic PPV precursor and such anionic MMT plates were spin self-assembled by electrostatic attraction. Self-assembled MMT layers blocked the penetration of oxygen and moisture and they reduced the photo-oxidation of the emitting material. Spin self-assembled films showed higher environmental stability and luminescence, and their PL spectra were somewhat different from that of bulk PPV films.

This study established a microfluidic chip for the capture of A549 human lung circulating tumor cells via the aptamer-conjugated self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in the channel. AuNPs are among the most attractive nanomaterials for the signal enhancement of biosensors owing to their unique chemical, physical, and mechanical properties. The microchip was fabricated using soft photolithography and casting and molding techniques. A self-assembly method was designed to attach AuNPs, cell-specific aptamers, and target cells onto the desired area (i.e., SAM area). In this study, the gold microelectrode configuration was characterized by fluorescence microscopy and impedance measurements to confirm the important modification steps. Subsequently, several investigations with the proposed assay were conducted with different cell samples to determine the specific binding ability of the device for A549 adenocarcinoma cancer cells. This work has ensured a simple, convenient, selective, and sensitive approach for the development of biosensors for lung cancer detection during the early stages.

Viologen has been extensively investigated in the paper because their well-behaved electro-chemistry has led to their use in a variety of thesises, including the electron acceptor for the electric charge delivery mediation of the devices. The self-assembled monolayers of alkane derivatives with sulfur containing head groups on gold substrates have been widely examined recently, since the binding between S atoms and Au surface is strong. We could know it was formed monolayer onto quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) surface by self-assembly method from resonant frequency shift using quartz crystal analyzer (QCA). The measured frequency shift were about 408 Hz by VC 8 SH . From this value, we calculated that the mass adsorbed VC 8 SH were about 432 ng. The EQCM measurements revealed that anions exit and enter the viologen monolayer during reduction and oxidation, respectively. We also use the scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) for manipulating the surface on a nanometer scale to form nanostructures.
