The precipitation of Ca3(PO4)2 scale on pipe surfaces widely occurs in numerous industrial processes. For the control of Ca3(PO4)2 scales, a novel environmentally friendly type of scale inhibitor Maleic anhydride (MA) - allypolyethoxy carboxylate (APEM) was synthesized. Structures of APEG, APEM, and MA-APEM were identified by FT-IR. MA-APEM possess excellent Ca3(PO4)2 inhibition, approximately 96.7 % at threshold dosage of 6 mg/L, and it also have superior ability to iron (III) dispersion in solutions approximately 24.3 % in the presence of MA-APEM when the dosage exceeds 6 mg/L. Inhibitor of MA-APEM can be used safely in cooling water systems.

AbstractIt was found that oximes undergo deoximation in the presence of the H2O2aq-HBraq system to form ketones and bromo ketones. This reaction provided the basis for the synthesis of dibromo ketones in yields varying from 40% to 94%. This method is environmentally friendly, sustainable, and easy to perform. The results of this investigation extend the potential of the use of oximes for the protection of carbonyl group, thus offering the ability to perform not only conventional deoximation but also the subsequent bromination of ketones. The reaction is easily scaled up and dibromo ketones can be prepared in gram amounts.

The demand for environmentally benign flame retardants for biodegradable polymers has become particularly necessary due to their inherently “green” nature. This work reports intrinsically non-toxic polydopamine (PDA) particles as an efficient and environmentally friendly flame retardant for polylactic acid (PLA). 5 wt% PDA loading resulted in a 22% reduction in the peak heat release rate, 34.7% increase in the fire performance index, and lower CO2 production compared to neat PLA. A limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of 27.5% and a V-2 rating was achieved in the UL-94 vertical burning test. Highly aggregated amorphous particulate char was formed with the increasing content of PDA, and a significant reduction in evolved pyrolysis gaseous products was achieved for the PLA/PDA composites as compared with control PLA. This work provides important insight into the potential commercial application of PDA alone as an efficiently green, environmentally benign flame retardant for bioplastic PLA.
