Nondestructive Testing Method

In this paper, infrared imaging and temperature sensor monitoring equipment are used to detect the defect of concrete. By means of experiment and numerical analysis, a nondestructive testing method for concrete based on infrared thermal imaging and the finite element simulation of temperature field was established. Experimental and simulation results show that infrared thermal imaging method and the finite element simulation of temperature field can effectively detect the defect in the sample. When combining such two methods together, the information of internal concrete structure can be revealed more comprehensively and accurately.

Infrared thermal (IRT) imaging is a modality that allows non-invasive and non-ionizing monitoring of skin surface temperature distribution, providing underlining physiological information on peripheral blood flow, autonomic nervous system, vasoconstriction/vasodilatation, inflammation, transpiration or other processes that can contribute to skin temperature. This imaging method has been used in biomedical applications since 1956 and has proved its usefulness for vascular, neurological and musculoskeletal pathological situations. This research aims to identify and appraise the recent biomedical applications which had used intelligent analysis methods such as machine learning processes to classify and perform decision making towards improving the existing medical care, a literature review is presented and their operation in the biomedical applications of infrared thermal imaging.

A thermal imaging method to detect inflammatory intra-abdominal pathology in infants is proposed and evaluated through a clinical trial. Nine surgical infants, mean chronological age 58 days old (range: 21-83 days), mean weight 2.65 kg (range: 2.45-3.15 kg) with abdominal pathologies were included in the analysis. Infrared thermal image processing consisted of selecting the surgical region of interest where the area of abdominal inflammation was most likely to be, and an abdominal reference region on the same infant, with the aid of clustering segmentation. Skewness was found to be the most sensitive variable to significantly differentiate between the surgical region and reference region (p = 0.022). Multilinear regression analysis indicated that the relationship between the temperature difference signified by skewness and the patients' demographic information (age at time of imaging, gestational age at birth, weight at the time of imaging, birthweight, last stool prior to imaging and last oral intake prior to imaging) was not significant. The study indicated that inflammatory regions, such as those found in infants following surgery, would have a significantly different temperature distribution than the surrounding skin. Ice valve is a unique kind of micro valve without any moving elements and leakage. While in its operational process, appropriate control on the valve depends on well knowing the working statues of the valve system. In order to develop a quick and convenient method for guiding the operation of the ice valve, this paper is dedicated to establish a non-contact image way for monitoring the ice valve during controlling the micro fluid. The far-infrared thermal imaging system was adopted to detect and map the surface temperature distribution of the ice valve, which consequently could help achieve the non-contact monitoring of the ice valve.

For many Lap-on-a-Chip applications, rapid and homogenous mixing of two or more fluid species is inevitable. However, it is also of great importance to developing a quick and convenient method for monitoring the mixture processing, as well as the entire working process of the Lab-on-a-chip. In order to develop a quick and convenient method, this paper is dedicated to establish a non-contact image way for monitoring not only the liquid flow behavior, but also the mixability between each reactant. The far-infrared thermal imaging system was adopted to detect and map the surface temperature distribution of the micromixer, which consequently could help achieve the non-contact monitoring of the mixing process.
