Photoluminescence spectra of Yb2+ ions doped into CsCaX3 and CsSrX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) depict a manifold of transitions in high resolution, which allows a detailed understanding of the optical properties of divalent lanthanide ions in perovskite host lattices.

Synthesis of Er 3+, Eu 3+ ions activated strontium hexa-aluminate phosphor using the combustion method is described. An efficient phosphor can be prepared by this method at reaction temperatures as low as 500°C in a few minutes. Powder X-ray diffraction and the optical properties were studied by photoluminescence spectra.

The optical properties of isotope-pure28Si12C, natural SiC and enriched with13C isotope samples of the 4H polytype are studied by means of Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopies. The phonon energies of the Raman active phonons at the Γ point and the phonons at the M point of the Brillouin zone are experimentally determined. The excitonic bandgaps of the samples are accurately derived using tunable laser excitation and the phonon energies obtained from the photoluminescence spectra. Qualitative comparison with previously reported results on isotope-manipulated Si is presented.

Magnetic objective lenses, from the point of view of pole piece geometry, can he roughly classified into two types, viz., symmetrical and asymmetrical. In the case of the former, the optical properties have been calculated by several authors1-3) and the results would appear to suggest that, in order to reduce the spherical and chromatic aberration coefficients, Cs and Cc, it is necessary to decrease the half-width value of the axial field distribution and to increase the peak flux density. The expressions for either minimum Cs or minimum Cc were presented in the form of ‘universal’ curves by Mulvey and Wallington4).

AbstractThe effects of 137Cs gamma irradiation on photoluminescence properties, such as spectra, light output, and lifetime, of several types of colloidal nanocrystals have been investigated. Irradiation-induced damage testing was performed on CdSe/ZnS, LaF3:Eu, LaF3:Ce, ZnO, and PbI2 nanocrystals synthesized on a Schlenk line using appropriate solvents and precursors. Optical degradation of the nanocrystals was evaluated based on the measured dependence of their photoluminescence intensity on the irradiation dose. Radiation hardness varies significantly between various nanocrystalline material systems.
