Luminescent anionic β-diketonate complexes of formula [P8,8,8,1][Ln(dbm)4], (Ln = Eu3+ and Sm3+, [P8,8,8,1] = trioctylmethylphosphonium and dbm = 1,3-diphenylpropane-1,3-dione) were synthesized, characterized and their photoluminescence properties studied.

RbCaGd(PO4)2:Eu2+ was prepared by the Pechini-type sol–gel method. The crystal structure was determined in the first time. The dipole–dipole interaction plays a major role in the mechanism of concentration quenching of Eu2+ in this phosphor.

Stable metal nanoparticles in tetraalkylphosphonium ionic liquids can catalyze hydrogenations, as well as phenol hydrodeoxygenation, owing to presence of adventitious borates.
