In the skincare field, water-dispersed bacterial cellulose nanofibers synthesized via an oxidation reaction using 2,2,6,6–tetramethyl–1–piperidine–N–oxy radical (TEMPO) as a catalyst are promising bio-based polymers for engineered green materials because of their unique properties when applied to the surface of the skin, such as a high tensile strength, high water-holding capacity, and ability to block harmful substances. However, the conventional method of synthesizing TEMPO-oxidized bacterial cellulose nanofibers (TOCNs) is difficult to scale due to limitations in the centrifuge equipment when treating large amounts of reactant. To address this, we propose a one-pot TOCN synthesis method involving TEMPO immobilized on silica beads that employs simple filtration instead of centrifugation after the oxidation reaction. A comparison of the structural and physical properties of the TOCNs obtained via the proposed and conventional methods found similar properties in each. Therefore, it is anticipated that due to its simplicity, efficiency, and ease of use, the proposed one-pot synthesis method will be employed in production scenarios to prepare production quantities of bio-based polymer nanofibers in various potential industrial applications in the fields of skincare and biomedical research.

MnFe2O4 NPs are successfully decorated on the surface of SiO2 sheets to form the SiO2-MnFe2O4 composite via one-pot hydrothermal synthesis method. The phase identification, morphology, crystal structure, distribution of elements, and microwave absorbing properties in S-band (1.55~3.4 GHz) of the as-prepared composite were investigated by XRD, SEM, TEM, and Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) respectively. Compared with the pure MnFe2O4 NPs, the as-prepared SiO2-MnFe2O4 composite exhibits enhanced microwave absorption performance in this frequency band due to the strong eddy current loss, better impedance matching, excellent attenuation characteristic, and multiple Debye relaxation processes. The maximum reflection loss of −14.87 dB at 2.25 GHz with a broader −10 dB bandwidth over the frequency range of 1.67~2.9 GHz (1.23 GHz) can be obtained at the thickness of 4 mm. Most importantly, the preparation method used here is relatively simple, hence such composite can be served as a potential candidate for effective microwave absorption in S-band.

BiVO4-graphene composites were prepared through a one-pot hydrothermal synthesis method, and the structure were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron emission spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results show that BiVO4-graphene composites are successfully prepared, and BiVO4 particles are almost uniformly deposited on the surface of graphene.
