The adduct α-FeCl3 · S4N4 has been prepared from FeCl3 and S4N4 in CCl4. The new compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P 21/c with Z = 4 and lattice parameters a = 6.360(2), b = 13.066(4), c = 12.686(5) Å, and β = 99.43(3)°. An X-ray analysis shows that the S4N4 ring is bonded via one of its nitrogen atoms to the iron atom of the FeCl3 group and that the four ligand atoms around the iron atom form a tetrahedron. The structure of the complex is similar to the known structure of BF3 · S4N4

AbstractAt the transition metal sulfur center of [Ru(PPh3)2dttd], (dud2- = 2,3;8,9-dibenzo-1,4,7,10- tetrathiadecane( -2)), the substitution of one PPh3 ligand by anions like N3- or CN- in CH2Cl2 is always coupled with a chloromethylation of one thiolato S atom in dttd2- yielding the [dttd-CH2Cl]- ligand; with N3- conversion of azido into cyano ligands takes place additionally. In the reaction of [Ru(PPh3)2dttd] with covalent azides like Me3SiN3 or HN3, the PPh3 substitution is also coupled with the oxidation of Ru(II) to Ru(III). Thus [Ru(PPh3)2dttd] on reaction with NEt4N3 or NEt4CN in boiling CH2Cl2 yields [Ru(PPh3)(L)(dttd-CH2Cl)], (L = N3-, CN-), whereas with Me3SiN3 or HN3 in addition to [Ru(PPh3)(N3)(dttd-CH2Cl)] the paramagnetic (μeff = 1.58 B.M.) [Ru(PPh3)(N3)(dttd)] is obtained. The very stable [Ru(PPh3)(CN)(dttd-CH2Cl)] forms deeply coloured adducts with H+ as well as [CrCl3(THF)3], AlCl3 and BF3. With Mel it yields [Ru(PPh3)(CN)(Me-dttd-CH2Cl)]I. All compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis as well as spectroscopic means including ESCA; the structure of [Ru(PPh3)(CN)(dttd-CH2Cl)] has been solved by X-ray structure analysis.

The article reports the first transitionmetal complex of methanesulfonylhydrazine, a molecule known for important pharmacological and chemical applications. The complex [ZnCl2(MSH)2], MSH = CH3SO2NHNH2, has been synthesized and its structure characterized by means of X-ray analysis. The coordination geometry is pseudo-tetrahedral and the ligand MSH adopts a conformation that was found by previous ab initio calculations to be a transition state and not a stationary point for the free ligand.
