Zirconium dioxide nanoparticles have been synthesized by microwave assisted solution method. The prepared nanoparticle have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet- diffuse reflectance spectra, thermo gravimetric-differential thermal analysis and also evaluated for their antibacterial activity against bacterial strains. XRD pattern showed the prepared ZrO2 nanoparticles having monoclinic structure which shows the average crystalline size around 20 nm. SEM image showed the particles are spherical shape with agglomeration due to the intermolecular attraction for small particle size. From the UV-DRS,the energy band gap has found to be 4.9 eV. The results of antibacterial activity showed that the nanocrystalline zirconium dioxide had an important inhibitory activity against pseudomonas arginosa. Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye in the presence of ZrO2 nanoparticle under sunlight has been investigated at various times. The 75 % of methylene blue dye has been degraded at 140 min of sunlight irradiation. The photocatalytic activity of catalyst has been high for 40 mg/50 mL sample concentration.

Nano-hexaferrite SrFe12O19 has been prepared using the aqueous solution method. The structure and magnetic properties of SrFe12O19 have systematically been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Thermo gravimetric (TG), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), as well as Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). The XRD and TEM results showed that the samples are composed of SrFe12O19 nano-particles which are on average 70×50nm in dimensions when treated at 1200°C for 2 hours. The magnetic properties indicated that the saturation magnetization and the intrinsic coercivity were 48 Am2/kg and 506KA/m, respectively. The aqueous solution method is generally applicable to produce the nano-hexaferrite SrFe12O19 and is proved to be a promising method for fast synthesis of nanometer materials using nitrate.

A rapid preparation route, microwave-assisted chemical solution method, has been developed for the fabrication of zinc sulfide (ZnS) thin film and powder with shape of microsphere. The as-obtained products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and optical measurement. XRD results indicated that the structures of as-obtained products are wurtzite. The SEM and AFM photographs show that uniform ZnS microsphere with size of less than 1 μm and homogeneous thin film could be obtained from solution under adequate conditions with thiourea as sulfide source. The results show that microwave-assisted chemical solution method is really a time saving method to fabricate the ZnS thin film and nanostructured microspheres.
