Canonical correlation was employed to test the relationship between prestige and interpersonal attraction in a public speaking situation. The hypothesis was that, when responding to a public speech, subjects would make judgments about the prestige of the speaker that would serve as an inferential base regarding conclusions about the interpersonal attraction of that individual. Results indicated that males ( ns = 78, 48) made judgments of interpersonal attraction dominated by task attraction, while females ( ns 90, 69) made multiple judgments about interpersonal attraction encompassing social, task, and physical attraction. Different results were obtained for a male and a female speaker.

The hypothesized interactive effect of feat of appearing incompetent in the relationship between attitude similarity and interpersonal attraction was not obtained. Instead, significant main effects occurred for both male and female Ss due primarily to the stronger attraction toward dissimilar strangers by Ss with high fear of appearing incompetent than those low in such fear.

Abstract : This study aims to determine the relationship between perceptions of physical attractiveness with interpersonal attraction in class X SMA PGRI 2 Palembang. The subjects were students of class X SMA PGRI 2 Palembang, data collection instruments used in this study is the interpersonal attraction scale and scale perception of physical attractiveness. Methods of data analysis using simple regression correlation techniques. The results showed there significant relationship between the perception of physical attractiveness with interpersonal attraction in class X SMA PGRI 2 Palembang. The relationships in the show from the value of the correlation coefficient r = 0.586 with a significance value (p) = 0.000, or in other words, p < 0.01. This shows that there is a significant relationship between the perception of physical attractiveness with interpersonal attraction in class X SMA PGRI 2 Palembang. The value of donations perception of physical attractiveness on interpersonal attraction is 33%. The conclusion of this study is that there was a significant relationship between the perception of physical attractiveness with interpersonal attraction in class X SMA PGRI 2 Palembang.    Keywords: Interpersonal Attractions, Perception, Physical Attractions   Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara persepsi daya tarik fisik dengan atraksi interpersonal pada siswa kelas X SMA PGRI 2 Palembang. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMA PGRI 2 Palembang, alat pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah skala atraksi interpersonal dan skala persepsi daya tarik fisik. Metode analisis data dengan menggunakan teknik korelasi Regresi sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukan ada hubungan yang sangat signifikan antara persepsi daya tarik fisik dengan atraksi interpersonal pada siswa kelas X SMA PGRI 2 Palembang. Hubungan tersebut di tunjukan dari nilai koefisien korelasi r = 0,586 dengan nilai signifikansi (p) = 0,000 atau dengan kata lain p < 0,01. Ini menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan yang sangat signifikan antara persepsi daya tarik fisik dengan atraksi interpersonal pada siswa kelas X SMA PGRI 2 Palembang. Besarnya nilai sumbangan persepsi daya tarik fisik terhadap atraksi interpersonal adalah 33 %. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini adalah ada hubungan yang sangat signifikan antara persepsi daya tarik fisik dengan atraksi interpersonal pada siswa kelas X SMA PGRI 2 Palembang.   Kata Kunci: Atraksi Interpersonal, Persepsi, Daya Tarik Fisik

The objective of this study is to study the relationship between attitude towards dress (as a function of self expression, interpersonal attraction, identity and self, body image, emotions, social, aesthetics, success and personality) and self-concept. A sample of 80 college going -40 males and 40 females, was chosen using the method of purposive sampling. The results were subject to statistical analysis like descriptive statistics and correlation, show that both girls and boys have equally favourable attitude towards dress but differ significantly on Self Concept. Also relationship between attitude towards dress and self concept is seen to some extent. In girls Aesthetic Self concept relates negatively to attitude towards dress whereas in boys Aesthetic self concept relates positively to Attitude towards dress. Also there is a positive relationship between Character self concept and Attitude towards dress in females but no relation among the same in boys. A negative relationship on emotional self concept and Attitude towards dress is exhibited in boys unlike girls who show no relationship. Also Intellectual Self concept is not related to Attitude towards dress in both. A comprehensive understanding of how these variables are related and underlying gender differences can be vital influence on youth’s sense of self, growth and wellbeing.
