<p>En 1998 se inicia el desarrollo de la investigación: "Situación de la enseñanza de la filosofía en la Educación Diversificada de Costa Rica", N° 743-99-298, en el Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas (INIF) de la Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR). El estudio se basó en una encuesta preparada para evaluar la enseñanza de la filosofía, a partir de la opinión y creencia de los estudiantes de la educación diversificada en Costa Rica que, en efecto, reciben filosofía. La encuesta evalúa cinco componentes: (a) Conocimiento del programa y objetivos del curso; (b) Percepción de la clase de filosofía; (c) Conocimiento de temas y autores; (d) Mediación pedagógica del personal docente y (e) Actitud hacia la filosofía. Para llevarla a cabo, esta encuesta se aplicó en el año 2002; se escogieron once regiones educativas del país y del total de regiones se entrevistaron a 543 estudiantes. En este trabajo se describen y analizan los principales resultados de esa encuesta.</p><p> </p><p>A research project on the teaching of philosophy in Costa Rica's senior high schools was began in 1998. It was registered at the Institute for Research in Philosophy, University of Costa Rica, as Project #743-99-298. The study is an evaluation of the teaching of philosophy, from the opinion and believes of the student in Costa Rica’s senior high schools. The survey evaluates five components:(a) Knowledge of the program and objectives of the course. (b) Perception of the philosophy classes. (c) Knowledge of topics and authors. (d) Pedagogic Mediation of the educational personnel and (e) Attitude toward the philosophy. The survey was applied in the year 2002. It is realized in eleven country’s educative regions. They interviewed to 543 students. In this paper the main results of the survey are described and analyzed.</p>

Las Olimpiadas Costarricenses de Ciencias Biológicas promueven el estudio activo, participativo y significativo de las ciencias biológicas a nivel de la enseñanza media y preuniversitaria y potencian el nivel cognitivo mediante competencias académicas dirigidas a estudiantes y docentes de secundaria, con el objetivo de mejorarla calidad educativa y fortalecer sus conocimientos y la adquisición de nuevas destrezas y habilidades teórico-prácticas relacionadas con esta ciencia.  Es una actividad que genera espacios de participación en todos los centros educativos, tanto públicos como privados, de las veintiún Sedes Regionales del país. Esta competencia se divide en dos categorías: la A, para estudiantes de los nivelesde décimo, undécimo y duodécimo; y la B, para estudiantes de los niveles de octavo, noveno y décimo.La unión interuniversitaria entre la Universidad de Costa Rica, la Universidad Estatal a Distancia y la Universidad Nacional ha logrado consolidar y fortalecer las Olimpiadas Costarricenses de Ciencias Biológicas, proyectándolas como un evento de gran alcance y significado para el desarrollo de las ciencias biológicas en la educación y en la sociedad costarricenses, desarrollando diversas gestiones para estudiantes de secundaria y para docentes de educación media. Esta actividad tiene gran valor en la labor extensiva de las universidades.  El establecimientode un equipo de colaboradores y colaboradoras entre las universidades involucradas en esta actividad de extensión, así como deotras instituciones gubernamentales y no gubernamentales relacionadas con la educación, ha fortalecido las Olimpiadas y ha logrado aumentar la participación año a año de estudiantes y docentes de secundaria.Abstract The Biological Sciences Olympics of Costa Rica promote active, participatory and significant study of the biological sciences at the high school and pre-university education level, encouraging the cognitive level through academic competitions for students and teachers, with the aim of improving, both the quality of education and strengthening their knowledge and acquire new and theoretical and practical skills related to this Science. This activity generates opportunities for the participation of all public and private schools, at the 21 regional offices around the country. This competition is divided into two categories, A for students of X, XI and XII level and B for students of VIII, IX, and X level. This study consists of a quantitative analysis comparing the mindsets of high school students from three different regions of Costa Rica. The objective is to identify students’ mindsets for English learning. Possible differences between the three geographical areas are explored. The results suggest that the students in all three regions appear to tend toward the growth mindset for studying English. No salient differences regarding students’ mindsets toward learning English were found among the three regions. The reasons for these results and pedagogical implications are also discussed.

A modification of the Paired-Stimuli Parent Program (Florance, 1977) was adapted for the treatment of articulatory errors of visually handicapped children. Blind high school students served as clinical aides. A discussion of treatment methodology, and the results of administrating the program to 32 children, including a two-year follow-up evaluation to measure permanence of behavior change, is presented.

Summary: This article describes a triarchic analysis of an aptitude-treatment interaction in a college-level introductory-psychology course given to selected high-school students. Of the 326 total participants, 199 were selected to be high in analytical, creative, or practical abilities, or in all three abilities, or in none of the three abilities. The selected students were placed in a course that either well matched or did not match their pattern of analytical, creative, and practical abilities. All students were assessed for memory, analytical, creative, and practical achievement. The data showed an aptitude-treatment interaction between students' varied ability patterns and the match or mismatch of these abilities to the different instructional groups.

This study examined how social opportunity structure influences identity exploration and commitment of Albanian high school students. A total of 258 students completed a questionnaire that gauged their identity exploration and commitment in three domains: education, occupation, and family. ANOVA results indicated that, overall, students scored highest in exploration in the domain of education and in commitment in the domain of family. Students' exploration and commitment were linked to gender. Albanian female students scored higher than male students in exploration and commitment regarding education and family. Perceived work opportunities in Albania or abroad also significantly moderated participants' exploration in the domain of education and were associated with commitment in education and occupation. As one of the first studies to explore Albanian youth's identity development in relation to social opportunity structure, findings are discussed in light of furthering the field of Albanian adolescent and youth development.

Abstract. This study investigated the effects of politicians’ nonparticipatory and participatory Facebook posts on young people’s political efficacy – a key determinant of political participation. We employed an experimental design, using a sample of N = 125 high school students (15–20 years). Participants either saw a Facebook profile with no posts (control condition), nonparticipatory posts, or participatory posts. While nonparticipatory posts did not affect participants’ political efficacy, participatory posts exerted distinct effects. For those high in trait evaluations of the politician presented in the stimulus material or low in political cynicism, we found significant positive effects on external and collective efficacy. By contrast, for those low in trait evaluations or high in cynicism, we found significant negative effects on external and collective efficacy. We did not find any effects on internal efficacy. The importance of content-specific factors and individual predispositions in assessing the influence of social media use on participation is discussed.
