Ruthenium half-sandwich complexes are central in a wide range of diverse applications in the field of organometallic chemistry. As such, exploration of their preparation and reactivity is crucial for development of their chemistry. Herein, we present alternative synthetic methods for the preparation of Cp*Ru(dppm)Cl, Cp*Ru(dppe)Cl, Cp*Ru(dppf)Cl, [Cp*Ru(COD)(MeCN)]BF4, and [Cp*Ru(bpy)(MeCN)]BF4 (dppm = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane; dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino) ethane; dppf = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene; COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene; bpy= 2,2′-bipyridine), starting from the easily accessible [Cp*Ru(η6-C10H8)]BF4. The single-crystal X-ray structure determinations for [Cp*Ru(COD)(MeCN)]BF4, and [Cp*Ru(bpy)(MeCN)]BF4 are also presented.

The addition of pyridyl and quinolyl nitriles to the 4-lithium salt of 1-hydroxy-2.2.4.5.5- pentamethyl-3-imidazoline with a silyl protected OH group affords 4-aminovinyl substituted imidazoline derivatives 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 which can be converted into the corresponding nitroxide radicals 5, 8, 11, 14 and 17. The 4-amino-1-azadiene residues of these imidazoline nitroxides form a series of chelates of palladium (22 - 26, 29 - 32) and with ruthenium half sandwich complexes (33 - 36). Coordination of the pyridine or quinoline N atom has been observed in mononuclear (19 - 21) and trinuclear (27, 28) palladium complexes and the structure of 19 was determined by X-ray diffraction.

Dinuclear half-sandwich complexes [{TiCl3(η5-C5Me4)}2SiMe2] (2) and [{TiCl3(η5-C5Me4SiMe2CH2)}2] (4) were prepared by synproportionation of ansa-titanocene dichlorides [TiCl2{(η5-C5Me4)2SiMe2}] (1) and [TiCl2(η5-C5Me4SiMe2CH2)2] (3), respectively, with TiCl4. Compound 3 was synthesized from 1,2-bis(chlorodimethylsilyl)ethane, 1,2,3,4-tetramethylcyclopentadienyllithium, and [TiCl3(thf)3] by a common procedure. Crystal structures of 2, 3, and 4 were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis.
