Abstract: The balance between the levels of stress and recovery in athletes is necessary to achieve an optimal state of performance and compete with guarantees in high-performance sports. The objective of this study is to determine the stress-recovery levels in high-performance alpine ski athletes based on the level of internal load at three times of the season. Seven athletes from the Andorran Ski Federation have participated, with an average age of 19.43 (SD = 4.08) years. The Spanish version of the Stress-Recovery Questionnaire for athletes (RESTQ-76) was administered in three situations differentiated by training load (low, medium, and high). The results indicate significantly higher values in Success in the medium load situation compared to the high load situation, in Sleep quality, in the medium load situation compared to the other two situations and in Self-regulation in the high load situation compared to the low load situation. The present study evidenced a favorable general stress-recovery state and showed the importance of identifying the stress-recovery state to prevent overtraining and injuries in alpine skiing.

Bulky plants are required to treat industrial effluents using conventional processes (settlement tanks, activated sludge, etc.). New techniques are being sought to reduce the size of the plants. The use of microorganisms, such as yeasts, in aerated reactors makes it possible to process effluents with very high volumetric loads and to produce a valorizable biomass. Despite their high salinity and COD concentration, yeasts can be used to process sugarbeet molasses liquors with volumetric load exceeding 80 kg COD.m−3.d−1, removing 70 % of the COD. The improvement in the quality of the biomass produced and the design of new types of reactor will allow this high-performance process to be developed into an interesting alternative method of treating concentrated industrial effluents.

There is an industrial demand for the increased performance of mechanical power transmission devices. This need in high performance is driven by high load capacity, high endurance, low cost, long life, and high speed. New designs and modifications in gears have been investigated to obtain high load carrying capacity and increased life with less volume and weight. Tooth wear is one of the major failure modes in gears. Although there are different classifications of wear mechanisms, wear on gears can be simply classified as mild wear, pitting, and severe wear, depending on the wear rate. These types of wear may lead to power transmission losses, decreased efficiency, increased vibration and noise, and gear tooth failure. This paper deals with the simulation of wear for standard and non-standard gears using an analytical approach. A numerical model for wear prediction of gear pair is developed. A wear model based on Archard’s equation is employed to predict wear depth. A MATLAB-based virtual tool is developed to analyze wear behavior of standard and non-standard spur gears with various gear parameters. In this paper, this virtual tool is introduced by using many numerical examples.

Under the background of the rapid development of today’s aerospace industry, the bearing characteristics of planetary roller screw drive under high overload conditions are studied. Designing a high-load, high-performance precision planetary roller screw drive is of practical and significant. An axially spaced RV type planetary roller screw with a single nut is designed under aerospace conditions. Under the conditions of the aerospace working load and efficiency, the parameters and structures of the planetary roller screw are completed. Based on this, the bearing characteristics of the planetary roller screw are studied and the equivalent finite element model of the planetary roller screw is analyzed. Those analyses include stress and strain, elastic–plastic properties, transmission efficiency, and dynamic load capacity. The results show that the design of planetary roller screw meets the design requirements for aerospace conditions. And the results can provide a basis for the design and manufacture of planetary roller screws under high loads.
