After washing, milling and calcining, the graphite rods recycled from waste dry batteries were used as raw material to prepare expandable graphite by chemical oxidation (using acetic anhydride as inserting and potassium dichromate as oxidant), the expanded graphite was prepared from the obtained expandable graphite by microwave radiation (MW) at 1000W for 60s.The characterization of infrared spectroscopy (IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of obtained expanded graphite have been discussed. The results show that it is feasible to prepare expanded graphite using graphite rods recycled from waste dry batteries.

The present study deals with the synthesis and characterization of nanocrystalline vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanoparticles and their antibacterial and antifungal activity onStaphylococcus aureus and Aspergillus niger, respectively, by agar diffusion method. The metal oxide has been synthesized by employing the sol-gel method, polyaniline (PANI) has been synthesized by chemical oxidation, and PANI/V2O5composites have been synthesized byin situpolymerization method with different ratios (10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 weight%) of V2O5in PANI. The newly prepared composites were characterized by FTIR and powder X-ray diffraction (P-XRD) techniques and are found to be formed of PANI/V2O5nanocomposites, and also the compounds showed moderate antibacterial and antifungal activity.

Expanded graphite (EG) is a promising conducting filler to enhance the conductivity of the polyacetylene (PA)/EG composites and also an ideal support to catalyst PA to polymerize on the surface of EG. The expanded interlayers of EG prepared by chemical oxidation is between 100 and 1500 nm. Diameters of the Fe (naph)3 nanoparticles deposited on the external surface and internal surface (i.e. surface of the expanded graphitic layers) of EG range from 7 to15 nm. PA/EG composites were prepared by heterogeneous polymerization. PA catalyzed by Fe (naph)3 nanoparticles supported on the external surface and at the edge of the expanded layers was inclined to form bigger aggregation, while PA grown between the interlayers exhibit smaller size. The bulk conductivity of the prepared composites is 5.78×103 S·m-1.

ABSTRACTPreliminary characterization of two native insulators on germanium is reported. A technique for preparing oxide by a room temperature chemical technique (wet chemical oxidation) is described. Compositional data based on IR transmission and ellipsometry, as well as characteristics of MOS capacitors based on this film are given. Also, compositional and electrical characterization of nitrided atmospheric pressure oxides are reported here. These films have very low fixed charge and interface state densities, and show excellent potential for use as gate insulators in a germanium MOS technology.
