A series of copper complexes (3–6) stabilized by 1,2,3-triazole-tethered N-heterocyclic carbene ligands have been prepared via simple reaction of imidazolium salts with copper powder in good yields. The structures of bi- and trinuclear copper complexes were fully characterized by NMR, elemental analysis (EA), and X-ray crystallography. In particular, [Cu2(L2)2](PF6)2 (3) and [Cu2(L3)2](PF6)2 (4) were dinuclear copper complexes. Complexes [Cu3(L4)2](PF6)3 (5) and [Cu3(L5)2](PF6)3 (6) consist of a triangular Cu3 core. These structures vary depending on the imidazolium backbone and N substituents. The copper–NHC complexes tested are highly active for the Cu-catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction in an air atmosphere at room temperature in a CH3CN solution. Complex 4 is the most efficient catalyst among these polynuclear complexes in an air atmosphere at room temperature.

Abstract. A highly active peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.7) has been found to be localized in the mitochondria isolated from the fundic region of mouse stomach. The stomach has also the property of concentrating iodide significantly. Evidence has been presented to show that the peroxidase is orientated outside the mitochondrial membrane. The enzyme is strongly inhibited by antithyroid drugs like methimazole and thiouracil. Azide and cyanide completely inactivate the enzyme. The activity is inhibited by SH-blocking reagents like mersalyl or pchloromercuribenzene sulphonate, but not by N-ethylmaleimide. The enzyme is also sensitive to the action of some proteolytic enzymes. It can catalyse the formation of mono- or diiodotyrosine from tyrosine or monoiodotyrosine as substrate, respectively. The enzyme is capable of synthesizing thyroxine and triiodothyronine on the backbone of a protein, such as thyroglobulin or albumin.

Highly active nanostructured pluri-metal catalysts for fuel cell applications can be obtained by designing synthetic protocol where the particle size, metal composition and morphology can be readily tailored. Tunable synthesis relates to combining the various synthetic methodologies available for generating nanostructured metal catalysts with desired catalytic properties. Herein, we discuss some of these synthetic methodologies which were developed to combine the advantages of each pathway in generating efficient fuel cell catalysts and to learn how the composition and morphology of the metals be fine tuned.

A beta-lactamase produced by Pseudomonas stutzeri was purified to protein homogeneity, and its physicochemical and catalytic properties were determined. Its profile was unusual since, in addition to penicillins, the enzyme hydrolysed second- and third-generation ‘beta-lactamase-stable’ cephalosporins and monobactams with similar efficiencies. On the basis of the characteristics of the interaction with beta-iodopenicillanic acid, the enzyme could be classified as a class-A beta-lactamase. However, when compared with most class-A beta-lactamases, it exhibited significantly lower kcat./Km values for the compounds usually considered to be the best substrates of these enzymes.

This paper investigated Au-Pd/ZrO2alloy catalyst prepared by solution reduction method using NaBH4as reducing agent and L-lysine as protection agent. TEM, EDX, XRD, UV-Vis and XPS were employed to investigate the morphology, composition, dispersity and catalytic properties of the catalyst. The results show that Au-Pd/ZrO2alloy catalyst is uniform and highly dispersed. Furthermore, this preparation method leads to highly active Au-Pd/ZrO2alloy catalyst for the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol.
