A conductometric method is described for the determination of rates of solvolyses in nonaqueous media with an accuracy of better than ± 0.5% in k. The heat of activation derived from the results so obtained is shown to have a temperature coefficient (ΔCp‡) of −21 cal./mole deg.

A conductometric method is described and applied for the determination of the Soret coefficient of normal carboxylic acids in aqueous solutions in order to check a new model described in our previous papers. The Soret cell originally developed by Agar and Turner was applied with only minor modifications. The results show that the deviations between the measured and calculated Soret coefficients are lower than 2.5% except for formic acid (33% in average).

Alpha-acids are the main bitterness substances of beer and are mainly humulone, cohumulone and adhumulone. The effects of storage temperature on the composition of hop pellets of the varieties Hüller Bitterer and Magnum were studied. All the hop pellets samples were stored at -20°C, but the losses in bitter acids content were different for each hop variety.
