The Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) of Malaysia introduced the Return to Work (RTW) Program in 2007 which is a comprehensive multidisciplinary biopsychosocial rehabilitation program for its Insured Persons who are experiencing disability due to accidents in the workplace or those claiming for invalidity. This rehabilitation program is unique as it involves the concept of “disability management” in which each Insured Person who is referred to the program, is assigned to a Disability Case Manager who is actively involved throughout the return to work process. Up to date (December 2013), 11,090 workers were motivated to participate in the SOCSO RTW Programme, and this requires many work processes, countless paper-work and massive physical files and document management. Due to this massive information flow, the demand for a more efficient information system is needed. From the beginning, the whole idea was to create an accessible, quick and user-friendly application. The application is now used by the SOCSO RTW Department in managing their information. This application was built on an open source platform which can be access through the internet. It is also a “learning application” where it uses its historical data to assist the case managers to generate standard rehabilitation plans and forecast possible return to work outcomes. The beauty of such application is that it is easily replicated, configurable (email notifications, reminders, etc) to meet the needs of the case managers in various jurisdiction. The scope of the application can also be easily defined to meet the size of an enterprise using the application. With better management of information, this application has contributed in reducing processing time, repetitive paperwork, minimal storage areas and almost real-time flow of information in the SOCSO's RTW Case Management system. Apart from that, the application now stores a wealth of information such as rehabilitation strategies for various disability or illnesses or demographic backgrounds.

Key stakeholders (injured workers, rehabilitation co-ordinators, rehabilitation providers, treating doctors and insurers) in the occupational rehabilitation process were interviewed to gain their perspective concerning the degree to which case management was viewed as the organising principle of post-injury management and to whom this role was most frequently assigned. Findings indicated that there were differences in stakeholder perceptions about who should fill this role for the injured worker, with the majority of each group claiming case management as their proper role. In contrast, 35% of the injured workers interviewed stated that they either did not have a case manager or that they case managed themselves. Although it was argued that rehabilitation co-ordinators are suitably placed to act as case managers, they were nominated least by injured workers. Three vignettes of successful case management were presented and recommendations for policy and practice were made.

AbstractBackgroundIndividuals with psychosis are known to have a lower self-esteem compared to the general population, in part because of social stigma, paternalistic care, long periods of institutionalization and negative family interactions. This study aimed at assessing the efficacy of a self-esteem enhancement program for individuals with severe mental illness and at analyzing the results in their European context.MethodA randomized cross-over study including 54 outpatients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia from Geneva, Switzerland, was conducted. Twenty-four were recruited from an outpatient facility receiving traditional psychiatric care whereas 30 came from an outpatient facility with case-management care. Psychosocial, diagnostic and symptom measures were taken for all the subjects before treatment, after treatment, and at 3-months' follow-up.ResultsResults indicated significant positive self-esteem module effects on self-esteem, self-assertion, active coping strategies and symptom for the participants receiving case-management care. Results were not significant for those receiving traditional care. However, 71% of all participants expressed satisfaction with the module.ConclusionIndividuals with schizophrenia appear to be benefit from the effects of the self-esteem module, particularly when they are involved in a rehabilitation program and followed by a case manager who liaises with the other partners of the multidisciplinary team. This encourages reconsidering the interventions' format and setting in order to ensure lasting effects on the environment and in turn on coping, self-esteem and overall empowerment.

The impression that work can be good for a worker's health is a powerful one especially when it is combined with the idea that returning people to work may also have positive benefits for employers and government, physical and vocational rehabilitation and reintegration assumes even greater significance. The Social Security Organization of Malaysia (SOCSO) is a statutory body governing the Employment Accident Insurance Scheme and the Invalidity Pension Scheme. SOCSO covers over 6 million workers and processes over 70,000 new claims annually. SOCSO introduced the RTW Program in 2007 which is a comprehensive multidisciplinary biopsychosocial rehabilitation program for its Insured Persons who are experiencing disability due to accidents in the workplace or those claiming for invalidity. This rehabilitation program is unique as it involves the concept of “disability management” in which each Insured Person who is referred to the program, is assigned to a Disability Case Manager who is actively involved throughout the return to work process. This presentation discusses the justification of introducing the RTW programme in Malaysia, with reference to the underlying rationale, association between work and rehabilitation, evidence to establish a positive relationship between health and work, and the benefits of RTW for employees, employers and SOCSO. Up to date (December 2013), 11,090 workers were motivated to participate in the SOCSO RTW Programme and 7,881 (71%) have returned to gainful employment. This clearly shows the success of the RTW Programme in not only returning a disabled worker to work but to give them their lives back. Due to this success, SOCSO has started to build its National Rehabilitation Centre for the purpose of RTW which will be ready in mid-2014. However, there is still room for improvements which establish the way forward for SOCSO in creating a more disability-management-centric system.

Sanitation workers are the backbone of the public hygiene and waste management system. Despite providing an essential public service, their work is often unrecognised. A majority of the workers too are unaware of the social security and welfare schemes instituted by both the Central and State governments for their wellbeing, which prevents them from availing the benefits such as pension, differently-abled and education and women welfare assistance, among others. This document furnishes the details of the social security and welfare schemes implemented by the Central and State governments, the eligibility criteria and benefits, and how sanitation workers can access them.

Kata-kata kunci:   : Komunikasi interpersonal, Manajer Kasus, Percaya diri  People's treatment of people with PLWHA is very discriminatory. Even they are marginalized in the social community. This fact is very unfavorable to increase their confidence to survive. Efforts to save their confidence require coaching activities conducted by volunteers belonging to peer support groups). Interpersonal communication between Case Managers (Peer Relief Groups) is very necessary in order to increase the confidence of people with PLWHA. The problem of patient assistance of PLWHA conducted by the Constitutional Court will be studied with theories that exist in interpersonal communication. The underlying theory is the theory of interpersonal communication and the theory of self-disclosure (Self Disclosure). These theories are helpful and underpinning in discussing the various problems in this study. The method used in this study is the method "descriptive qualitative" is a study that describes and describes the various conditions and situations that become the object of research. The analytical unit is: verval and nonverbal communication, openness (self), empathy (place in position or feelings of others), support.Interviews and observations show communication through informal language (mixed) and using body movements. Empathy is always by the Case Managers with a variety of ways in communicating there is openness to each other's feelings. It is also based on the trust of people with PLWHA that the Case Managers will keep their personal secrecy in the community. Keywords: Interpersonal Communication, Case Manager, Confident

BACKGROUND: Case management interventions have shown to be effective to prevent musculoskeletal pain and disability, but a single definition has not been achieved, nor an agreed profile for case managers. OBJECTIVE: To describe the elements that define case management and case managers tasks for return-to-work of workers with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). METHODS: A comprehensive computerized search of articles published in English until February 16, 2021 was carried out in several bibliographic databases. Grey literature was obtained through a search of 13 key websites. A peer-review screening of titles and abstracts was carried out. Full text in-depth analysis of the selected articles was performed for data extraction and synthesis of results. RESULTS: We identified 2,422 documents. After full-text screening 31 documents were included for analysis. These were mostly European and North American and had an experimental design. Fifteen documents were published between 2010 to 2021 and of these 7 studies were published from 2015. Fifteen elements were identified being the commonest “return-to-work programme” (44.4%) and “multidisciplinary assessment/interdisciplinary intervention” (44.4%). Of 18 tasks found, the most frequent was “establishing goals and planning return-to-work rehabilitation” (57.7%). Eighteen referral services were identified. CONCLUSIONS: Despite there were several elements frequently reported, some elements with scientific evidence of their importance to deal with MSDs (e.g. early return-to-work) were almost not mentioned. This study proposes key points for the description of case management and case managers tasks.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the performance of and support for case management using a policy framework in order to increase case managers’ awareness of policy making and facilitate successful planning for future policy initiatives. Feldstein’s (1996) theory of opposing legislative outcomes indicates that legislation can be viewed on a continuum, ranging from legislation that meets the needs of the public to legislation considered to be in the self-interest of the participants and legislators. The current health care system requires that case managers working for publicly funded health care organizations balance the need for stewardship of U.S. tax dollars and the health care needs of consumers. It is apparent from the literature that case managers are successfully achieving this balance. However, certain conditions should exist that allow for case manager decision-making that promotes effective and efficient utilization of health care resources. Case managers must work within the context of the health care policy environment. Realizing that it is more likely that the conflicts between stewardship and the provision of health care services will continue, case managers’ knowledge and influence regarding policy making becomes imperative in order to ensure that these conflicting goals do not become mutually exclusive.
