OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: To complete a needs assessment and action planning process that engaged clinical and translational research network members in identifying needs through survey feedback, characterizing the needs in small group sessions, and developing recommendations for action at the network’s annual scientific meeting. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: The project included (1) a survey of 357 members across partner institutions from the Great Plains IDeA CTR Network, (2) 6 - 90 minute brainstorming sessions to characterize needs identified through survey assessment, and (3) 6 - 60 minute sessions to develop recommendations for network improvement based on the characterization activity. Approximately 75 members participated in the characterization and recommendation sessions. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Seven areas of need from the survey were identified based upon the frequency of identification by network members (support to move research across the translational spectrum, database design and management, data access and sharing, data analysis, recruitment and retention of subjects, support for members who have submitted grants but were repeatedly unsuccessful, mentoring). Members indicated which characterization sessions they were interested in attending and based on the enrollment numbers needs related to unsuccessful grant submitters and mentoring were combined as were needs related to database design and data access-sharing. Sessions resulted in 8 inter-related recommendations for network action that included to (1) develop GP-CTR directory/registry of clinicians, researchers, system partners, that can be used to identify people that want to be involved in research partnerships or mentoring, (2) create a GP CTR Navigators Program to will provide support to network members throughout the collaborative research and grant preparation process, (3) identify and disseminate information about assets (funding, databases/registries) that exist amongst network partners that can be leveraged by member, (4) develop a searchable repository of evidence-based interventions for T3/T4 efforts, (5) review GP CTR supported professional development, and technological resource offerings and identify potential gaps, (6) facilitate opportunities for peer support/networking, (7) provide guidance to GP CTR network institutions looking to adopt policies that will support translational research collaboration, and (8) identify potential barriers to GP CTR network engagement (i.e., infrastructure, communication, marketing). DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE OF IMPACT: This process allowed for a wide range of network members to contribute to actionable recommendations for CTR leadership to move into action and improve the scientific network’s ability to conduct clinical and translational research.

The Population Health Research Network (PHRN) is an Australian data linkage infrastructure capable of securely and safely linking and integrating data collections from a wide range of sources. It is an example of a national data linkage infrastructure in a country with a federated system of government. This population data centre profile describes Australia’s unique approach to enabling access to linked data from single jurisdictions and from multiple jurisdictions. It covers the background to the establishment of the PHRN as well as information about how it operates today including operating models, governance, data, data linkage and data access. Some of the challenges of data linkage across jurisdictions are also discussed.

Abstract The emphasis on team science in clinical and translational research increases the importance of collaborative biostatisticians (CBs) in healthcare. Adequate training and development of CBs ensure appropriate conduct of robust and meaningful research and, therefore, should be considered as a high-priority focus for biostatistics groups. Comprehensive training enhances clinical and translational research by facilitating more productive and efficient collaborations. While many graduate programs in Biostatistics and Epidemiology include training in research collaboration, it is often limited in scope and duration. Therefore, additional training is often required once a CB is hired into a full-time position. This article presents a comprehensive CB training strategy that can be adapted to any collaborative biostatistics group. This strategy follows a roadmap of the biostatistics collaboration process, which is also presented. A TIE approach (Teach the necessary skills, monitor the Implementation of these skills, and Evaluate the proficiency of these skills) was developed to support the adoption of key principles. The training strategy also incorporates a “train the trainer” approach to enable CBs who have successfully completed training to train new staff or faculty.

Bladder cancer research has historically lagged behind efforts in other disease sites with substantial underfunding relative to the heavy morbidity and mortality suffered by patients. Alongside increasing advocacy however, more recent advances in our understanding of the molecular biology of bladder cancer has ushered in a period of renaissance with exciting prospects for novel, precise diagnostics and therapeutics. Given significant and diverse assets within the research community across Canada, an inaugural translational research forum was convened to identify research gaps and strengths, and to formalize investigational themes that would be apposite for multi-institutional collaboration. The virtual meeting brought together a multi-disciplinary network of genitourinary cancer researchers, including clinicians and basic scientists, and entailed detailed environmental scans of the Canadian clinical and translational research landscape as well as selected “elevator pitches” of potential research themes. The results of these discussions are detailed herein and have provided the impetus to formalize the Canadian Bladder Cancer Research Network (CBCRN). Working groups have been created to focus future multi-institutional collaborations in four inter-related initiatives: biomarker development, epigenetic targeting, immuno-oncology and the microbiome.

OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: (1) To explain and discuss minority health and health disparities and the mechanisms, for example, individual behaviors and lifestyle, genetics and epigenetics, physical and cultural environment, and clinical events and health care, that lead to health disparities. (2) To explore the intersection between health disparity science and clinical and translational science. (3) To present and discuss the NIMHD Framework and how it can be used to guide multilevel research to address minority health and health disparities. (4) To highlight examples of NIMHD-funded novel and innovative research relevant to clinical and translational research from a health disparities perspective. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: The NIMHD Research Framework will be introduced that is currently being used by NIMHD to address minority health and health disparity research. The Framework looks at targeted populations in relation to biological, behavioral, physical, and sociocultural environmental domains of influence as well as the health care system. These domains have different levels of influence: individual, family/interpersonal, community, and population. Targeted populations include NIH-designated health disparity populations, that include racial/ethnic minorities, socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, underserved rural populations, and sexual and gender minorities. The following research opportunities are among the many opportunities offered by NIMHD: Disparities in Surgical Care and Outcomes Social Epigenomics for Minority Health and Health Disparities Addressing Health Disparities Among Immigrant Populations. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Select examples of NIMHD supported minority health and health disparities research that intersects with clinical and translational research will be presented. Candidate examples include: Genetic Architecture of Lupus (SLE) in individuals with Asian ancestry; A Novel Racial Disparity Marker for Risk Prediction in Triple Negative Breast Cancer Patients; Self-Applied Wearable Ultrasound Therapy for Osteoarthritis Management in Rural Central NY; Design and Development of a Multifunctional Self-service Health Screening Kiosk. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE OF IMPACT: Despite notable improvements gained as a result of medical and scientific advances, there continues to be an alarming disproportionate burden of illness and lack of representation in research among minority and other socially disadvantaged and underserved populations. To meet this challenge, NIMHD is committed to supporting a wide range of clinical and translational research aimed at the development of innovative strategies and approaches to reduce and, eventually, eliminate health disparities. NIMHD’s mission, research priorities, and funding opportunities are relevant to the efforts and interests of clinical and translational scientists, especially those interested in the translation of research findings into interventions, products, and tools that may improve minority health and quality of life, increase adherence to medication and treatment regimens, increase access, and improve the delivery of health services.

Abstract Background Grounded in the last decade's health literacy developments; the work of the European health literacy action networks on measurement and NCDs as well as the newly adopted European Health Literacy Roadmap and resolution agreed upon by their 53 Member States in 2019, the WHO European Region continues its investment in health literacy. A WHO European health literacy action plan is under development to be launched in 2021. The action plan implies concrete actions for Member States on how to develop health literate populations and societies. Methods Based on co-creation principles, the development of the action plan is conducted by stakeholders from a wide range of fields and disciplines. Lead by the WHO European Regional Office, the process includes an initial stakeholder meeting, iterative technical consultations with experts and the wider stakeholder community and Member State consultations. The analytical methods integrate a SWOT-analysis, future scenario thinking and long-sight action planning approaches as well as application of health literacy analytics. Results The results of the initial analytical steps will be presented such as the SWOT analysis, the future scenarios and associated recommendations on how to create health literate populations and societies in Europe. Additionally, the outline of the draft of the European health literacy action plan will be open for discussion and input. Conclusions Through an iterative process, the European health literacy action plan is co-produced by multiple actors through a series of consultations facilitating ownership and accountability. The European health literacy action plan can be an inspiration and a model for other world regions.

Abstract Background Analyzing the previous research literature in the field of clinical teaching has potential to show the trend and future direction of this field. This study aimed to visualize the co-authorship networks and scientific map of research outputs of clinical teaching and medical education by Social Network Analysis (SNA). Methods We Identified 1229 publications on clinical teaching through a systematic search strategy in the Scopus (Elsevier), Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) and Medline (NCBI/NLM) through PubMed from the year 1980 to 2018.The Ravar PreMap, Netdraw, UCINet and VOSviewer software were used for data visualization and analysis. Results Based on the findings of study the network of clinical teaching was weak in term of cohesion and the density in the co-authorship networks of authors (clustering coefficient (CC): 0.749, density: 0.0238) and collaboration of countries (CC: 0.655, density: 0.176). In regard to centrality measures; the most influential authors in the co-authorship network was Rosenbaum ME, from the USA (0.048). More, the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands have central role in collaboration countries network and has the vertex co-authorship with other that participated in publishing articles in clinical teaching. Analysis of background and affiliation of authors showed that co-authorship between clinical researchers in medicine filed is weak. Nineteen subject clusters were identified in the clinical teaching research network, seven of which were related to the expected competencies of clinical teaching and three related to clinical teaching skills. Conclusions In order to improve the cohesion of the authorship network of clinical teaching, it is essential to improve research collaboration and co-authorship between new researchers and those who have better closeness or geodisk path with others, especially those with the clinical background. To reach to a dense and powerful topology in the knowledge network of this field encouraging policies to be made for international and national collaboration between clinicians and clinical teaching specialists. In addition, humanitarian and clinical reasoning need to be considered in clinical teaching as of new direction in the field from thematic aspects.
