In the process of data mining, techniques used, and results gathered, became ethically or even legally questionable due to the concern of the violation of individuals’ privacy when specific information is obtained, manipulated, and disseminated by other entities without an individual’s knowledge or consent. In other words, it is not the concern of what data is being mined, but more so regarding who is the miner of these data. This chapter is based on a review of the existing studies, which shows that not enough attention has been paid to the study of the “miner,” as well as the ethical and legal qualifications of the miner, from the perspectives of organizational development practitioners (OD) and organizational psychologists (OP) in approaching for certifying or licensing. During the review, several cases are being included to justify the certifying or licensing approach, thus upholding ethical data mining, especially in relation to the socio-economic development of a community, or county. This research concludes with a few practical recommendations for both data miner(s) and entities that are involved with data mining.

This book chapter provides a state-of-the-art survey of visual data mining techniques used for collaborative filtering. The chapter begins with a discussion on various visual data mining techniques along with an analysis of the state-of-the-art visual data mining techniques used by researchers as well as in the industry. Collaborative filtering approaches are presented along with an analysis of the state-of-the-art collaborative filtering approaches currently in use in the industry. Visual data mining can provide benefit to existing data mining techniques by providing the users with visual exploration and interpretation of data. The users can use these visual interpretations for further data mining. This chapter dealt with state-of-the-art visual data mining technologies that are currently in use apart. The chapter also includes the key section of the discussion on the latest trends in visual data mining for collaborative filtering.

It also documents existing variations in state economic development programs and explains the differences in approaches and current tendencies from both theoretical and practical standpoints.

In the first half of the 20th century, the US South lagged behind the Northeast in social and economic development, but in the 1920s and 1930s writers from the US South produced texts that used modernist aesthetic forms to depict poor, rural living conditions. This essay argues that ruralism in the South was a product of modernization, and that cultural development in southern literature preceded modernization, yielding texts that employ a discontinuous narrative technique to depict the rural regions, such as William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying and James Agee's and Walker Evans Let Us Now Praise Famous Men.
