The title compound, [Co(C13H9N2O2)2]·1.5C3H7NO, is formed as a neutral CoIIcomplex with dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent molecules. The CoIIatom has a distorted O2N4octahedral coordination sphere defined by two tridentate anionic Schiff base ligands with the O atoms beingcis. The coordination sphere around the CoIIatom is geometrically different from that reported for the co-crystal [Co(C13H9N2O2)2]·AA·H2O (AA is anthranilic acid). One of the DMF solvent molecules was modelled as being disordered about a crystallographic inversion centre with half-occupancy. The crystal structure is made up from alternating layers of complex molecules and DMF molecules parallel to (010). C—H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions between the complex molecules and the solvent molecules consolidate the crystal packing.

Summary The synthesis of uranyl complexes coordinated to tridentate, monoanionic salicylaldiminate (Schiff base) ligands was achieved by the reaction of UO2Cl2(THF)3, 1, with one equivalent of the corresponding sodium salicylaldiminate salts affording [(C9H6N)N=C(H)C6H2t Bu2O]UO2Cl(THF), 2, [(NC5H4)N=C(H)C6H2 t Bu2O]UO2Cl(THF), 3, and [(C6H4SCH3)N=C(H)C6H2tBu2O]UO2Cl(THF), 4. These are uncommon examples of uranyl complexes with a monoanionic ancillary ligand to stabilize the coordination sphere and one chloride ligand. Compounds 2-4 have been characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy as well as IR and UVVis spectroscopy and their structures determined by X-ray crystallography.

Some new symmetrical diimino tetradentate Schiff base ligands were synthesized by the reaction of 3,4-diaminobenzophenone with salicylaldehyde derivatives, such as [N,N?-bis(4-methoxysalicylaldehyde)- 3,4-diaminobenzophenone] (L1), [N,N?-bis(5-methoxysalicylaldehyde)- 3,4-diaminobenzophenone] (L2), [N,N?-bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)-3,4- diaminobenzophenone] (L3), [N,N?-bis(5-nitrosalicylaldehyde)-3,4- diaminobenzophenone] (L4). Additionally, a tetradentate Schiff base ligand [N,N?-bis(3-methoxysalicylaldehyde)-3,4-diaminobenzophenone] (L5), was synthesized. All the Schiff bases and their Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes were characterized using elemental analysis and infrared, electronic, mass and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The formation constants of the complexes were measured using UV-Vis spectroscopic titration at constant ionic strength 0.1 M (NaClO4), at 25?C in dimethylformamide (DMF) as solvent.

The coordination complexes of Co(II) and Zn(II) with Schiff bases derived from o-phenylenediamine and substituted 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde were prepared All compounds were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy elemental analyzers. They were analyzed using impedance spectroscopy in the frequency range of 100Hz-1 MHz. LI and L2 showed higher conductivity compared to their metal complexes, which had values of 1.3 7 x 10-7 and 6.13 x 10-8 S/cm respectively.
