Our previous studies have demonstrated that there is a correlation between GLP-1R SNP and the BMD in postmenopausal women. GLP-1 and GIP are both incretins. Whether the mutation of GIPR gene affects bone metabolism. SNP rs10423928 is a GIPR gene polymorphism that has been studied more frequently. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between GIPR SNP rs10423928 and bone-mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women in Shanghai. The GIPR SNP rs10423928 was detected in 884 postmenopausal women in Shanghai, the correlation between the GIPR SNP and BMD was further assessed. The dominant T/T genotype of the GIPR SNP rs10423928 was significantly related to BMD of the femoral neck (P = 0.035) and Ward’s triangle area (P = 0.033). Our research found that the dominant T/T genotype of GIPR SNP rs10423928 in postmenopausal women is significantly associated with higher BMD. The T/T genotype seems to have bone protection.

Abstract AMI: There is growing evidence of a complex interaction between T2DM and osteoporosis. The purpose of this study was to further study the relationship between BTMs and fasting blood glucose (FBG) in postmenopausal patients with type 2 diabetes and to analyze the effect of hyperglycemia on bone metabolism. Methods: Six hundred and twelve (612) postmenopausal women were included, including one hundred and seven (107) subjects with T2DM and five hundred and five (505) subjects without diabetes. BMD was measured by DXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry). Markers of bone formation (P1NP) and resorption ( CTX ) were quantified. Results: Compared to controls, postmenopausal women with diabetes had a higher prevalence of previous osteoporosis fracture (27.1% vs. 17.4% for diabetic and nondiabetic women, respectively) and a higher BMD. The P1NP level in women with T2DM was 49.451 ng/ml, while in N-DM individuals, it was 58.633 ng/ml, (p = 0.017). The CTX level in women with T2DM was 0.325 ng/ml, while in N-DM individuals, it was 0.412 ng/ml (p=0.039). In addition, P1NP was significantly negatively associated with age (β=-0.590; p= 0.002) and FBG (β=-1.950; p = 0.035). CTX was negatively associated with FBG (β=-0.029; p = 0.015). Conclusions: T2DM was associated with higher BMD and paradoxically, with an increased risk of fracture. Postmenopausal women with T2DM had lower bone turnover than controls. With increased levels of FBG, bone formation and bone resorption were reduced, and the overall bone turnover level was reduced. ObjectiveThe physiologic role of circulating endogenous testosterone and estrogen concentrations in relation to lean body mass (LBM) and muscle strength is not as well documented in postmenopausal women as in elderly men.DesignThree hundred and twenty-nine healthy postmenopausal women were randomly selected from a general practice population-based sample aged between 55 and 85 years.MethodsTotal testosterone and estrogen (TT and TE) and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) were determined and estimates of bioavailable testosterone (free androgen index (TT/SHBG, FAI), calculated free testosterone (cFT), and estrogen (TE/SHBG, ESR) were calculated. Examinations included bone mineral density (BMD) of the spine and femoral neck (FN), LBM, maximum quadriceps extension strength (MES) and maximum handgrip strength (MGS), timed up-and-go test (TUGT), osteocalcin (OC), and urinary deoxy-pyridinoline/creatinine (DPyr). Correlations were assessed using Pearson's correlation coefficient (r).ResultsWith advancing age, LBM, MES, MGS, BMD, and ESR significantly declined (ranger: −0.356 to −0.141) and TUGT, and DPyr significantly increased (ranger: 0.135 to 0.282 (P<0.05)). After age-adjustment, LBM, MES, and BMD in spine and FN were significantly related to bioavailable testosterone (ranger: 0.146 to 0.193, for cFT, and 0.157 to 0.224, for FAI) and to ESR (ranger: 0.162 to 0.273). OC and DPyr were significantly inversely related to ESR (r: −0.154 and −0.144 respectively).ConclusionsAge-related loss of LBM, MES and BMD in postmenopausal women is partly dependent on the presence of endogenous bioavailable testosterone and estrogen.

Aim: Osteoporosis is a multifactorial progressive skeletal disorder characterized by reduced bone mass. Exercise is widely recommended to reduce osteoporosis, falls and related fragility fractures. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of land exercise (LE) and aquatic exercise (AE) on physical function and bone mineral density (BMD). Methods: Fifty-eight postmenopausal women, aged 50-70 years,  diagnosed with osteoporosis according to BMD measures, enrolled in this study. The subjects were randomly assigned to either the intervention group (LE group) or the control group (AE group). Physical function and BMD were assessed in all subjects in both groups before and after 10 months of intervention. The muscle strength,   flexibility, balance, gait time and pain were measured to assess physical function. Bone mineral density at the lumbar spine was measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Results: There were no significant differences between the two groups in the baseline anthropometric data. The two groups were similar with respect to age, weight, height, and body mass index (p>0.05). After the exercise program, muscle strength, flexibility, gait time, pain, and bone density (p<0.001)  significantly improved with LE compared to AE. There was no significant difference between the two groups in balance at the 10-month follow-up. Conclusion: Significant improvements in physical function and BMD suggest that LE is a possible alternative for     postmenopausal women with OP. Clinical rehabilitation impact: In the current  available literature there is insufficient data regarding combined regimens,       additionally, conclusions from our research can inspire further studies in order to promote land and water based exercise.
