Fumed silica particles (SiO2) were directly added into poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) by melt mixing process. The effects of amount of fumed silica particles on mechanical properties of PBS/fumed silica composites, those are tensile strength, tensile modulus, impact strength as well as flexural strength, were investigated. It was found that the mechanical properties decreased with increasing fumed silica loading (0-3 wt%). In order to increase polymer-filler interaction, fumed silica was treated with 3-glycidyloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (GPMS), and its structure was analyzed by FT-IR spectrophotometry. The PBS/modified was found to possess better tensile strength, tensile modulus, impact strength and flexural strength that those of PBS/fumed silica composites.

ABSTRACTAn equivalent circuit model of electrical conduction in polymer-filler particulate composites was developed in this study. The equivalent circuit was constructed for an individual composite particle with a sub-monolayer of conductive filler, where the filler particles play the role of circuit nodes, and inter-particle contacts are represented by resistors between the nodes. The mathematical representation of the equivalent circuit in the form of a linear system of equations for nodal potentials was solved numerically with Matlab software to calculate conductance of the composite as a function of the amount of conductive filler, filled fraction of the monolayer, filler-to-matrix size ratio and the degree of structuredness (non-randomness) of the filler material. Additionally, percolation concentrations and statistical distributions of composite conductance were calculated as functions of the filler-to-matrix size ratio.

This study examined linear viscoelasticity of semidilute non-entangled poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and borax aqueous solutions: one borax molecule dissociates into two B(OH)3 molecules and two B(OH)4− ions, and the latter can crosslink the PVA chains.

In this present investigation, at first, Dially bisphenol A (DABA)/Bismaleimide (BMI) system was modified with gamma-aminopropyltriethoxy silane (KH550). The objective of the work was to study the effect of addition of various weight percentages of KH550 into BMI/DABA composites on its mechanical properties, thermal properties and morphorogy. Further modification was carried out with fumed silica. The role of KH550 was discussed in these composites prepared. Nancomposites were characterized by differential DSC, TGA, and scanning electron microscopy SEM. TGA results confirmed that the heat stability of the nano composite DABA/BMI/KH550 is improved compared with DABA/BMI system. SEM results indicated that the fumed silica dispersed homogeneously in DABA/BMI/KH550 matrix on nanoscale. Mechanical results shows that newly developed system has improved bending modulus to 4.0GPa, while with incorporation of fumed SiO2 impacted strength also improved to 20.60kJ/m2.
