Concept maps: A useful and usable tool for computer-based knowledge assessment? A literature review with a focus on usability

Simulation for education and training in health-care professions has been widely applied. However, its value as an assessment tool for competence is not fully known. Logistical barriers of simulation-based assessments have led some health-care organizations to utilize computer-based case simulations (CCSs) for assessment. This article provides a review of the literature on the identification of psychometrically sound, CCS instruments designed to measure decision-making competence in health-care professionals. CINAHL, MEDLINE, and Ovid databases identified 84 potentially relevant articles published between January 2000 and May 2017. A total of 12 articles met criteria for inclusion in this review. Findings of these 12 articles indicate that summative assessment in health care using CCSs in the form of clinical scenarios is utilized to assess higher order performance aspects of competence in the form of decision-making. Psychometric strength was validated in eight articles and supported by four replication studies. Two of the eight articles reported evidence of construct validity and support the need for evidence based on a theoretical framework. This literature review offers implications for further research on the use of CCS tools as a method for assessment of competence in health-care professionals and the need for psychometric evidence to support it.

Evolution of the Concept Map Based Adaptive Knowledge Assessment System: Implementation and Evaluation ResultsThe paper represents the concept map based adaptive knowledge assessment system. Advantages of concept maps are analyzed emphasizing that the approach offers a reasonable balance between requirements to assess higher levels of knowledge according to Bloom's taxonomy and complexity of a system. Concept maps allow revealing of student's knowledge structure, promote system thinking and support process oriented learning where a study course is divided into stages in each of which knowledge assessment is carried out. The developed knowledge assessment system consists from a teacher's, learner's and administrator's modules and is implemented as a multiagent system. Four prototypes of the system developed within four projects are described. The first prototype supports only fill-in-the-map tasks where a learner must put given concepts in correct places. The second prototype provides changing the degree of task difficulty, thus, performing adaptation to a learner's knowledge level. The set of tasks are also extended by construct-the-map tasks. Improvements implemented in the third prototype allow using of directed arcs and standard relationships in concept maps. The three-tier architecture used in the fourth prototype is chosen to rise the security level of the system. Besides that learner's support is considerably expanded giving help and tutoring to a learner. Results of evaluation of the developed system's prototypes in different study courses are presented. The paper concludes with the comparison of all four prototypes using all main characteristics of the developed knowledge assessment system.

Introduction. In Indonesia, technology has developed in various fields, this study explores the management of archives in Indonesian institutions still uses conventional archives or manages records electronically. The result of our findings also convey information on the development of electronic records management that has been carried out through a systematic literature review.Methods. A systematic literature review method was used for exploring electronic records management study. The use of this method is designed to search for, assess, and synthesize the best available evidence. The goal is to get informative, evidence-based answers related to the research questions.Analysis. The research will be analyzed based on the theory of Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcomes and Context (PICOC). Results and Discussion. Carried out through a systematic literature review method, our results found 20 documents that had links with electronic archive management activities. The institution applies electronic archive management by using software technology such as computer-based applications, Android-based applications on mobile phones, and website-based network applications to various processes of archiving activities.Conclusion Our results suggest that the management of institutional records in Indonesia should follow the development by implementing electronic management.

With the coming of the digital age over a period of the last three decades, the letter “e” is used to refer to the electronic world. Formerly known as computer-based training, e-learning has also come of age and is increasingly oriented to real-time learning, that is, activities facilitating simultaneous interaction between learners and instructors. Further, the knowledge explosion makes it more a necessity than a luxury even for emerging economies to consider the e-learning platforms and adopt e-learning strategies. The objectives of this chapter are to understand the essentials of effective e-learning strategies and identify the barriers and facilitators in embedding e-learning for emerging economies so as to align well in this knowledge era. The methodology adopted is in depth literature review and grounded theory approach. Contextual analysis and is restricted to effectiveness of e-learning from an emerging economy point of view.
