Two common types of animal-vehicle collision data (reported animal-vehicle collision (AVC) data and carcass removal data) are usually recorded by transportation management agencies. Previous studies have found that these two datasets often demonstrate different characteristics. To accurately identify the higher-risk animal-vehicle collision sites, this study compared the differences in hotspot identification and the effect of explanation variables between carcass removal and reported AVCs. To complete the objective, both the Negative Binomial (NB) model and the generalized Negative Binomial (GNB) are applied in calculating the Empirical Bayesian (EB) estimates using the animal collision data collected on ten highways in Washington State. The important findings can be summarized as follows. (1) The explanatory variables have different effects on the occurrence of carcass removal data and reported AVC data. (2) The ranking results from EB estimates when using carcass removal data and reported AVC data differ significantly. (3) The results of hotspot identification are different between carcass removal data and reported AVC data. However, the ranking results of GNB models are better than those of NB models in terms of consistency. Thus, transportation management agencies should be cautious when using either carcass removal data or reported AVC data to identify hotspots.

This paper provides a comparative analysis of the legal content of animal protection legislation in the Slovak Republic with that of Italian legislation. Firstly, we compare the legal systems in the Slovak Republic and Italy with respect to the animal protection laws, especially criminal law in both countries. This comparison of the two different legislations allows detection of identical or different characteristics in the area of animal protection, which could be used later as an inspiration for lawmakers in both countries.

Ikat is an ancient technique by which colored patterns are formed by tying and dyeing threads before they are woven. Ikat is an ancient resist dyeing technique in which the yarns are tied and dyed according to a specific pattern prior to weaving. This paper focuses on Atlas and Patola, the most famous ikat fabrics in China and India respectively as the research objects. The effort is to provide comparative analysis from the aspects of weaving technology, pattern style, composition characteristics and colors, based on literature and images. Although they are similar in production process, they have very different characteristics due to cultural background, religion, environment and aesthetic tastes of consumers and weavers. Both textiles showcase the local plants, flowers and colour preferences. Islam influences Atlas textiles and hence without animal and figurative pattern. Patola has different patterns for consumers from different religious following. Atlas and Patola are the fabrics of inheritance and represent two different regions and cultures.

Different ways for calculation critical parameters of homogeneous ball are considered in this article. Processes of elastic dispersion and multiplication can take place in this ball. Comparative analysis of different numerical calculation is made. Calculations of different characteristics are obtained from solving transport equation in diffusion approach and from Monte Carlo method. There is comparison between obtained results, analytical calculations and experimental data. Newness of algorithm consists in direct simulation of branching process distribution in nonhomogeneous medium. Offered algorithm allows calculating different physical values and its evolution in time. Calculation was made for systems which have free path more or equal than scale of heterogeneities.

The comparative analysis of two Phytolacca americana DOPA dioxygenases (PaDOD1 and PaDOD2) that may be involved in betalain biosynthesis was carried out. The recombinant protein of PaDOD1 catalyzed the conversion of DOPA to betalamic acid, whereas DOD activity was not detected in PaDOD2 in vitro. The role of DOD genes is discussed in the evolutionary context using phylogenetic analysis, suggesting that DOD might have been duplicated early in evolution and that accumulation of base substitutions could have led to the different characteristics of DODs within the betalain-producing Caryophyllales.

Although literary translation and aesthetics belong to different categories, they are inextricably linked. No matter what kind of language is the target of literary translation, it will be branded with relevant aesthetic thoughts to a great extent. This phenomenon can be seen everywhere in the field of literary translation in the East and the West. There are similarities between Chinese and Western aesthetics, for example, their origins are related to philosophy, and they are inseparable from literary aesthetics; there are also differences certainly, such as different psychological origins, different characteristics of development track, different attention to beauty, different methodology and so on. Through the comparative analysis of the similarities and differences between the two sides in aesthetic ideas, this paper aims to enhance its guiding role in translation practice.

Fresh e-commerce has attracted the attention of the capital market for its hundreds billion market scale, high repurchase rate, big market demand and large profits. More and more young and middle-aged people choose fresh e-commerce as the channel of fresh purchase to achieve faster speed, higher quality and more commodity categories. The price is no longer the only factor for consumers, especially for young and middle-aged consumers. This paper makes a comparative analysis of five fresh e-commerce platforms in terms of delivery time, third-party occupancy, and minimum consumption of “free distribution fee”, members, communities, payment preferences, and e-commerce platform interface. In this paper, one hundred consumers are selected to evaluate the scores in respective modules, and the operation models of fresh e-commerce platform with different characteristics are comprehensively displayed. The paper points out that providing more quality and differentiated services has become an important competitive key point in the market.

The paper reports on the technological study of finds from the Sosnovaya Maza Hoard (the collection of the State Historical Museum). The study covered 42 sickles, one fragment of a sickle, a sprue channel and one piece of metal and included the analysis of morphological and metric characteristics of the items, statistical analysis of their metric characteristics, tracewear analysis of 42 sickles and the sickle fragment documenting casting traces, waste casting, post-casting treatment and traces of use. We conducted comparative analysis of the traces and singled out groups of sickles cast in one mold. The analysis of these groups with different characteristics and the examination of the sickles of slightly different shapes and size provided an opportunity to clarify the technological process and the use of mass produced models. The statistical processing of the metric characteristics of the sickles, the sprue channel and the piece of metal demonstrated that besides finished items of various quality and their fragments, a piece of metal the weight of which corresponded to the amount of raw material needed to cast one sickle, was also included in the hoard.
