TiO 2 thin films have been deposited on glass and indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass substrates by sol–gel technique. The influence of annealing temperature on the structural, morphological and optical properties has been examined. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results reveal the amorphous nature of the as-deposited film whereas the annealed films are found to be in the crystalline anatase phase. The surface morphology of the films at different annealing temperatures has been examined by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The in situ surface morphology of the as-deposited and annealed TiO 2 films has also been examined by optical polaromicrograph (OPM). TiO 2 films infatuated different structural and surface features with variation of annealing temperature. The optical studies on these films suggest their possible usage in sun-shielding applications.

In this study, we have successfully synthesized Fe3+ doped SiO2/TiO2 thin films on glass substrates using the sol-gel dip-coating method. After synthesizing, the samples were annealed at 5000C in the air for 1 hour. The characteristics and optical properties of Fe3+ doped SiO2/TiO2 films were then investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). An antifogging ability of the glass substrates coated with the fabricated film is investigated and explained by a water contact angle under visible-light. The analyzed results also show that the crystalline phase of TiO2 thin films comprised only the anatase TiO2, but the crystalline size decreased from 8.8 to 5.9 nm. We also observed that the absorption edge of Fe3+- doped SiO2/TiO2 thin films shifted towards longer wavelengths (i.e. red shifted) from 371.7nm to 409.2 nm when the Fe3+-doped concentration increased from 0 to 1 % mol.

Optical properties and microstructures of Mg(Zr0.05Ti0.95)O3 thin films prepared by sol-gel method on ITO/glass substrates at different amount of chelating agents and annealing temperatures have been investigated. The relative intensity ratio values of the peak Mg(Zr0.05Ti0.95)O3 thin films, secondary phase of MgTi2O5 and grain growth were depended on the amount of chelating agents and annealing temperature. In the optical transmission spectra, the Mg(Zr0.05Ti0.95)O3 thin films present high transparency (over 60%) in the visible region of the spectrum. The dependence of the optical properties and microstructure characteristics on thermal treatment was also investigated.
