In this research two fragments of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COX1) gene of the mitochondrial DNA were analyzed in 61 individuals of the genus Rhynchophorus collected in the Region of Murcia with the aim of determining their origin. Phylogenetic analysis of fragment 1 of the samples collected in the Region of Murcia together with the available sequences in GenBank, indicated that these individuals correspond to the species R. ferrugineus. Sequences from Murcia collapsed into the H8 Mediterranean haplotype, which cluster into the R. ferrugineus clade. Phylogeographic analysis shows that the origin of the individuals collected in the Region of Murcia is Egypt. Additionally, a contiguous fragment of COX1 (fragment 2) was analyzed and the sequences collapsed into two haplotypes.

The morphology of the different stages (larva, pupa, male, and female) of Rhyacophila fasciata kykladica Malicky & Sipahiler 1993 was examined as a basis for the description of the taxon. Morphological data were supplemented by molecular analysis of mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (mtCOI), which were compared with samples of the nominate subspecies Rhyacophila fasciata fasciata Hagen 1859, as well as with other new species in this group, Rhyacophila denticulata McLachlan 1879 and Rhyacophila sociata Navás 1916. Our results revealed genetic differences between all the taxa; therefore, a change of taxonomic status of R. fasciata kykladica to R. kykladica (stat. prom.) is proposed.

Eleven (two known and nine new) species of the subgenus Stegana (Steganina) from China are described or redescribed: S. (S.) longifibula Takada, 1968, S. (S.) toyaensis Okada & Sidorenko, 1992, S. (S.) biflava sp. nov., S. (S.) flavivittata sp. nov., S. (S.) hirtifoliacea sp. nov., S. (S.) latitabula sp. nov., S. (S.) panda sp. nov., S. (S.) pinguifoliacea sp. nov., S. (S.) spatulata sp. nov., S. (S.) stachydifolia sp. nov. and S. (S.) unguiculata sp. nov.; they are assigned into the coleoptrata, ornatipes and undulata species groups, respectively. A total of 130 DNA sequences of partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (mtCOI) gene of 38 species (including the 11 species) of above-mentioned three groups are newly obtained in this study. These sequences and other available barcoding sequences of the three groups are involved in a molecular analysis using neighbor-joining (NJ) method, in order to assess the availability of DNA barcoding for delimiting the Steganina species. The result indicates that all the sampled Steganina morphospecies within the three groups are monophyletic.

Chromosomal assignment of the KlCYC1 gene from Kluyveromyces lactis has been performed by hybridization of the labelled probe to a DNA blot of isolated chromosomes. A clear hybridization signal to chromosome VI is reported.Key words: Kluyveromyces lactis, cytochrome c gene, chromosomal mapping.

A new species of Myxia Bahder & Bartlett (Cixiidae: Cixiinae: Oecleini) is established as Myxia hernandezi sp. n. collected from native palms in cloud forest habitat in Costa Rica. Placement in the genus Myxia is supported by molecular analysis of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and 18S loci as well as morphological characters.

A new species of Myxia Bahder & Bartlett (Cixiidae: Cixiinae: Oecleini) is established as Myxia baynardi sp. n. collected from native palms in cloud forest habitat in Costa Rica. Placement in the genus Myxia is supported by molecular analysis of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and 18S loci as well as morphological characters. Haplaxius delta (Kramer) was collected along the Caribbean coast as a new country record for Costa Rica. Based on morphological characters observed and molecular analysis of COI and 18S, H. delta is herein moved to the genus Myxia.
