X-ray diffraction studies of the polyoxymethylene crystals grown inside Tetroxane and pentoxane crystals showed that the polymer molecules form in a specific way with respect to the monomer crystals. Specific morphological features of polyoxymethylene crystals grown inside irradiated trioxane crystals were reported by the authors. Morphological investigations are presently being extended to the polymer crystals formed inside crystals of the higher cyclic oligomers, tetroxane and pentoxane, in an effort to elucidate the important features of this so called solid state polymerization reaction.Samples of tetroxane and pentoxane were prepared and irradiated with alpha particles in the same manner as described.
