Kashmiri has two structural positions for negation: a high position associated with focus and a low position associated with tense. In verb second environments, the difference between these two positions is neutralized on the surface and irrespective of the location where negation is generated, it appears as a suffix on the finite verb. But in non-verb second environments such as conditionals and correlatives the two negations can be teased apart. In these environments, the high negation appears as a suffix on material such as relative phrases and the conditional marker while the low negation appears as a suffix on the finite verb. The high vs. low distinction has semantic implications: in certain environments where the negation is arguably ‘expletive’, negation can only be high.

The purpose of this study was to determine the system for placing employees in structural positions as well as the determinants of the placement of employees in structural positions in the Personnel and Human Resources Development Agency of Southeast Minahasa Regency. Data collection techniques were collected through 1) Observation, 2) Interviews, 3) Documentation. The research results are the Employee Placement System in Structural Positions through a standard mechanism, namely using Government Regulation Number 11 of 2017 concerning the Management of the State Civil Apparatus. Placement of employees in structural positions is carried out based on the principle of professionalism by the competence, work performance, ranks assigned to the position as well as other objective requirements regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, race, or class as well as the Determinant Factors on Employee Placement, namely: 1) Academic Achievement, 2) Experience, 3) Physical and Mental Health, 4) Marital Status, 5) Age.

This paper analyzes preverbal overt subjects, comparing Brazilian Portuguese to (other) null-subject languages, especially within Romance. It explores syntactic and semantic properties, including resumption, ellipsis, quantifiers and scope, variable binding, ordering restrictions, pronominal distinctions, minimality violations, bare nouns and definiteness. It concludes that preverbal subjects in Brazilian Portuguese can be realized both in argumental positions (Specifier of the Inflectional or Tense Phrase) and non-argumental positions (Topic Phrase specifiers), with the possibility that both types of positions are filled by the subject in the same clause, incorporating properties that have been argued not to be found together in other languages.

This chapter focuses on the semantic and pragmatic effects associated with the various positions of negation. Particularly, presuppositional readings for negative statements follow from different structural positions of negation (higher in the TP) as opposed to the non-presuppositional interpretations associated with the lower NegP below TP. This chapter also analyses contrasts between SA maa on the one hand and laa and its variants on the other hand. These contrasts are related to scope readings, presupposition, mood and speech acts (commissive, directive, volitive, and (ir)realis). I argue that presuppositional negation is a product of the interplay between syntax and pragmatics. Specifically, I propose that presuppositional negative markers are higher in the syntactic structure. They occupy a position above the tense phrase in the clausal structure, namely NegP above TP (cf. Zanuttini 1997 for similar effects in various Romance). Pragmatically marked negation includes presuppositional negation, categorical negation and cleft-negation. The former two are in a NegP above TP, while the latter is in CP.

The issue of gender injustice is a form of social injustice in Indonesia which has always been an interesting theme and will remain an important theme in every thought and conception of society in the future. This study aims to describe the recruitment process for ASNs in structural positions in the Provincial Government of East Nusa Tenggara and also the factors that influence the lack of female ASN occupying structural positions. The research method used is qualitative by collecting primary data through in-depth interviews and observation techniques, while secondary data is collected through archives and documentation. The results showed that the recruitment process for State Civil Servants to occupy structural positions was in accordance with the rules in the State Civil Apparatus Law No. 5 of 2014, although not fully implemented as a whole. Apart from the fact that regulations that have not been fully implemented have been identified as well as other factors that influence as well as a lack of interest or willingness from women themselves, space and opportunities are provided but awareness of women to take part is still very minimal.
