The stability of the undeflected middle surface of a uniform elastic cylindrical shell governed by Ka´rma´n’s equations is studied. The shell is being subjected to a time-varying axial compression as well as a uniformly distributed time-varying radial loading. Using the direct Liapunov method sufficient conditions for deterministic asymptotic as well as stochastic stability are obtained. A relation between stability conditions of a linearized problem and that of Ka´rma´n’s equations is found. Contrary to the stability theory of nonlinear plates it is established that the linearized problem should be modified to ensure the stability of the nonlinear shell. The case when the shell is governed by the Itoˆ stochastic nonlinear equations is also discussed.

The nonlinear magnetoelastic vibration equations and electromagnetic field equations of a conductive thin cylindrical shell in magnetic fields are derived. The nonlinear principal resonances and dynamic stabilities of the cylindrical shell simply supported in a transverse magnetic field are investigated. Approximate analytical solution and bifurcation equations of the system with principal resonances are obtained by using the method of multiple scales. The stabilities and singularities of the steady-state solutions are analyzed and the stability criterion is given. The transition sets and bifurcation figures of unfolding parameters are also obtained. The variations of the resonance amplitudes with respect to the detuning parameter, the magnetic induction intensity, and the amplitude of excitations are presented. The corresponding phase trajectories in moving phase planes are given. The stabilities of solutions, characteristics of singular points, and bifurcation are analyzed. The impacts of electromagnetic and mechanical parameters on dynamic behaviors are discussed in detail.

The Suspended Latticed Intersected Cylindrical Shell (SLICS) is a new structural system, composed by the single layer Latticed Intersected Cylindrical Shell (LICS) and the prestressed cable-strut system. Mechanical properties of this structure were investigated through nonlinear buckling analysis by the consistent imperfect buckling analysis method, compared with the single layer LICS. Structure parameters including prestress level, member section, length of bar, rise-span ratio, obliquity were analyzed. And the effect of material nonlinearity on the stability was studied. Results show that the ultimate bearing capacity of the SLICS is improved as the introduction of prestress. However the prestress level has a limited impact on the ultimate bearing capacity. And the material nonlinear is very important to the stability of the SLICS.

The stability of submerged functionally graded (FG) cylindrical shell under hydrostatic pressure is examined in this paper. Based on the Flügges shell theory, the coupled frequency of submerged FG cylindrical shell is obtained, using wave propagation method and Newton method. Then the critical pressure of FG cylindrical shells is given by applying linear fitting method. Results are compared to known solutions, where these solutions exist. The effects of constituent materials, volume fraction, boundary condition and dimensions on the critical pressures of submerged FG cylindrical shell are illustrated by examples.

The paper deals with stability analysis of shell on the basis FEM via Castem 2000. The numerical results of stability problems of cylinders subjected to different loads as compress load, pressure, concentrated and combined loads are compared with analytical result and give a good agreement. The influence of changing radius of the cylindrical shell on the unstable forms and the influence of angles of fibers on unstable behaviour of laminated composite shell are considered. Numerical results and corresponding programs by languages Gibian given in the paper to realize software Castem 2000 can be applied in the design and in the stability analysis of the shell with more complex conditions
