Perfluorocarbons, solid at room temperature, were added at different weight ratios to carbon black-based air electrodes for Li–O2battery. PFCs-modified air-electrodes showed improved battery performance and were characterized by HRSEM images, nitrogen adsorption (BET), liquid adsorption, a comprehensive wettability study and electrochemical investigation.

Abstract A method for determining the accelerator adsorption properties of carbon blacks is described. This method is novel in that an extremely dilute solution of diphenylguanidine in benzene is employed. Application of the test to a large number of carbon blacks has revealed its practical value as a measure of those variations in adsorption properties which are of teal significance to the rubber manufacturer. The method has been employed in several separate control laboratories and it has been found to be of distinct value in indicating quality of production. Since the results can be interpreted without knowledge of source or history of the particular carbon black being tested, the test can be employed for control purposes by the rubber manufacturer as well as by the carbon black manufacturer.

Adsorption properties of carbon black before and after modification to polyhalogenohydrocarbons, including polyorganochlorine pesticides, have been investigated. It has been shown that graphitised thermal carbon blacks and carbochroms possess high adsorption capacity relative to the above compounds and can be used as supporting adsorbents to analyse these airborne chemicals. Modification raises the selectivity of adsorbents to the compounds being investigated and lowers retention volumes and heats of adsorption, which makes it possible to carry out thermal desorption of the accumulated species at lower temperatures.

Gas chromatography has been used to determine the initial low-coverage heats of adsorption of C2–C6 hydrocarbons and their derivatives on active carbon and graphitized carbon black. The porous structure of the active carbon has been determined from the adsorption isotherms of benzene measured at 25°C by a vacuum static method. The isotherms have been analyzed with the help of the BET and Dubinin–Radushkevich theories.

A jaundiced dog model was made by common bile duct-inferior vena cava shunt with a silicon rubber tube. Blood bilirubin levels increased from 0.25 ± 0.16 (SD) mg% to 15 ± 1.4 (SD) mg%. These dog models were treated with a column containing 200 gm of macroreticular resin NK-110 which was linked between the femoral artery and vein. The rate of blood flow through the column was 200 ml/min. It was shown that total bilirubin reduced from 15 ± 1.4 (SD) to 7.4 ± 0.61 (SD), conjugated bilirubin decreased from 6.97 ± 0.63 to 3.5 ± 0.33 (SD) and unconjugated bilirubin from 7.8 ± 2.1 to 4.2 ± 0.4 (SD). There were no significant changes in protein, electrolyte, blood gases and acid base balance. Results show that NK-110 resin has good blood-compatible and adsorption properties.
