There is a wide variety of universities, university campuses and university courses in Australia available to those interested in pursuing a higher education degree. This paper examines the impact of increasing competition for entrance to university on the educational outcomes for students from the government school sector. Using Melbourne as a case study, the research shows that, over a four-year period of increased competition, entry to some of the more academically accessible university campuses in the city became more difficult and this disproportionately affected the opportunities for university entrance among some groups. Despite the fact that there was no noticeable change in the academic standards achieved by government school completers, the rate at which government school students gained access to these universities declined noticeably during this time. These findings show how changes in supply of university places from year to year can have a profound effect on the opportunities of secondary-school completers—particularly those in more educationally disadvantaged settings.

Abstract Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the ideal quality of inclusive early childhood education, an effective leadership style and five practices of exemplary leadership. Research methodology: This is a review article. The review process began with a search engine (Google Scholar) to search and review early childhood education and leadership articles. Results: The results suggest that it is important to hold quality inclusive early childhood educations since, in this level of education, six developmental areas are well stimulated. The key success of maintaining quality inclusive early childhood education is a collaboration among education parties (government, school, parents and community). A school needs a principal who can perform five exemplary leadership practices to help “Golden Indonesia 2045” become true. Limitations: First, the scope of articles reviewed is still very limited to the literature review in the Indonesian context. This and other limitations will be opportunities for further empirical studies about five practices of exemplary leadership in the Indonesian education area. Contribution: This study can be useful for the early childhood education level.

ABSTRACTObjective: to investigate the maternal breastfeeding practice of pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers in a deprivation of liberty situation. Method: this is a descriptive qualitative study using convenience samples. A questionnaire was applied to 13 pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers on January and February 2008 in a women's penalcolony in the city of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. The testimonies were recorded and transcribed, and the analysis of results was based on the Collective Subject Discourse technique. This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Hospital Universitario Osvaldo Cruz (HUOC) of Universidade Estadual de Pernambuco (UPE), under the Opinion 138/2007. Results: it was observed that women’s reaction with regard to a confirmed pregnancy is related to the support they receive from their partners and family members. In their perception, one realizes conflicting feelings of wishing to be close to their children and protecting them from the reality experienced in the penitentiary system. Conclusion: the need for a professional qualification in health care considering both the issue of citizenship and the health promotion of the binomial mother-child became apparent. Aplicou-se questionário com 13 gestantes e nutrizes nos meses de janeiro e fevereiro de 2008 em uma colônia penal feminina da cidade de Recife-PE. Os depoimentos foram gravados e transcritos, e a análise dos resultados baseou-se na técnica do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo. O estudo foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética e Pesquisa do Hospital Universitário Osvaldo Cruz (HUOC) da Universidade Estadual de Pernambuco (UPE), sob o Parecer n. 138/2007. Resultados: foi observado que a reação das mulheres diante da confirmação da gravidez está relacionada ao apoio que elas recebem dos seus companheiros e familiares. Na percepção delas, nota-se a presença de sentimentos conflitantes entre o desejo de estar próximas a seus filhos e o de protegê-los da realidade imposta pelo sistema penitenciário. Conclusão: evidencia-se a necessidade de uma formação profissional em saúde comprometida com a questão da cidadania e com a promoção à saúde do binômio mãe-filho. This article discusses the concept of Socioenvironmental Educommunicationin the context of preschool education. An interface that emerges from the relationship between Educommunication and Environmental Education, this concept will be exposed based on a bibliographic systematization, when it becomes possible to find the contemporary intersections that arise from the use of audiovisual technology as mediation in the teaching-learning process. Such analysis will be done taking into consideration the documentary 1,2,3 Playing –Reinventing School Spaces, produced by the city of Joinville, Santa Catarina, which brings an audiovisual material made by the students. Using a quanti-qualitative approach, emerges the pedagogical power of Socioenvironmental Education, which ends up bringing to the scene language and content that project another way of thinking the school. Finally, there is a reflection on how, based on particularities, it is possible to create educational policies that contemplate the audiovisual tool in early childhood education.

Pendahuluan: Karies gigi merupakan masalah utama dalam kesehatan gigi masyakat, terlihat dengan tingginya prevalensi karies pada anak usia 1‒4 tahun (10,4%), dan pada anak usia 5‒9 tahun adalah 28,9%. Karies yang terjadi pada anak disebut Early Childhood Caries (ECC) atau karies dini yang terjadi pada anak usia 71 bulan atau lebih muda. Anak memperoleh perilaku kebersihan mulut dan kebiasaan kesehatan rongga mulut dari ibu sehingga peran ibu sangat mempengaruhi keadaan rongga mulut anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh tingkat pendidikan tinggi dan perilaku ibu terhadap indeks def-t pada anak usia 4‒5 tahun di TK Santa Maria Kota Cirebon. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analitik observasional dengan desain penelitian cross sectional. Populasi penelitian adalah anak usia 4‒5 tahun di TK Santa Maria Kota Cirebon. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 74 orang dengan teknik pengambilan sampel stratified random sampling. Hasil: Analisis statistik penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan model regresi Tobit. Simpulan: Terdapat pengaruh tingkat pendidikan tinggi dan perilaku ibu terhadap indeks def-t pada anak usia 4‒5 tahun di TK Santa Maria Kota Cirebon.Kata kunci: Tingkat pendidikan, perilaku ibu, indeks def-t, anak usia 4-5 tahun ABSTRACTIntroduction: Dental caries is a major problem in the dental health of the community, reflected by the high prevalence of caries in children aged 1‒4 years old (10.4%), and in children aged 5‒9 years old (28.9%). Caries that occur in children is called Early Childhood Caries (ECC), or early caries that occurs in children aged 71 months or younger. Children get their oral hygiene behaviour and oral health habits from their mothers; thus, the mother's role profoundly affects the children's oral cavity condition. This study was aimed to determine the influence of higher education level and maternal behaviour on the def-t index in children aged 4‒5 years old at Santa Maria Kindergarten in the city of Cirebon. Methods: This study was using an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional research design. The study population was children aged 4‒5 years old at Santa Maria Kindergarten in the city of Cirebon. The research sample was 74 people taken with stratified random sampling technique. Results: Statistical analysis of the study was conducted using the Tobit regression model. Conclusion: There is an influence of higher education level and maternal behaviour on the def-t index in children aged 4‒5 years old at Santa Maria Kindergarten in the city of Cirebon.Keywords: Education level, maternal behaviour, def-t index, 4-5-years old children
