Monitoring of Scoring Using thee-rater®Automated Scoring System and Human Raters on a Writing Test

With the continuous advancement of modern network technology, the drawbacks of the tradition-al English writing course teaching mode have become increasingly prominent, and the automated scoring system has gradually been used in the writing course. This paper proposes a college English writing teaching model based on Juku Correction Network, and conducts empirical re-search on the use of Juku Correction Network in college English writing teaching. The research results show that the teaching mode based on Juku Correction Network can effectively improve the overall level of students' English writing, and stimulate students' English writing motivation.

Answer Scoring is defined as an act of assigning a score to an answer by a human grader. This scoring technique is costly and requires deep logical efforts and it depends on less-than-perfect human assessment. However, the Automated Scoring (AS) System has its importance in providing the student with a score as well as feedback within seconds. This paper describes an AS system in which scores are assigned to essays automatically based upon predefined algorithms. Most of the educational sectors carry out an important examination process, i.e. to examine and assess the capabilities of the student based on his/her given answers. To accomplish this process, the human graders can apply this Automated Answer Scoring system. The paper goes through the existing techniques for automated answer scoring systems and then goes on to explain the newly developed system in which scoring is done by the statistical method adopting and integrating rule-based semantic quantum-based features analysis resulting in more accuracy. It is in a way a hybrid system suitable for short answer type scoring. It also presents the methodology and architecture of AS.

Although scalable programs, such as online courses, have the potential to reach broad audiences, they may pose challenges to evaluating learners’ knowledge and skills. Automated scoring offers a possible solution. In the current paper, we describe the process of creating and testing an automated means of scoring a validated measure of teachers’ observational skills, known as the Video Assessment of Instructional Learning (VAIL). Findings show that automated VAIL scores were consistently correlated with scores assigned by the hand scoring system. In addition, the automated VAIL replicated intervention effects found in the hand scoring system. The automated scoring technique appears to offer an efficient and reliable assessment. This study may offer additional insight into how to utilize similar techniques in other large-scale programs and interventions.
