Abstract: Obesity or overweight has become a epidemic disease that threatening the world and is a secondary factor of coronary heart disease. Women with more than 30% of body fat and men with more than 25% of body fat are considered obese. Low levels of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) are one of risk factors for atherosclerosis. The objective of this research is to obtain a picture of High Density Lipoprotein cholesterol in student of class 2011 of Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University with Body Mass Index of > 23,0 kg/m2. This is a descriptive study with data collection using a purposive sampling technique, that is, taking samples from respondents know to have fulfilled the inclusive and exclusive criteria. The data were obtained from the examination of blood samples of every respondent and presented in the form of frequency distribution using Microsoft Excel 2007. The results of research conducted on 26 respondents show the picture of HDL cholesterol levels is that is 58% normal and 42% high.Keywords: Description of High Density Lipoprotein, Body Mass Index > 23,0 kg/m2.Abstrak: Obesitas atau kegemukan telah menjadi penyakit epidemik yang mengancam dunia dan merupakan faktor sekunder timbulnya penyakit jantung koroner (PJK). Wanita dengan lemak tubuh lebih dari 30% dan pria dengan lemak tubuh lebih dari 25% dianggap mengalami obesitas. Rendahnya kadar High Density Lipoprotein merupakan salah satu faktor resiko terjadinya aterosklerosis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh gambaran kadar kolesterol High Density Lipoprotein darah pada mahasiswa angkatan 2011 Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sam Ratulangi dengan indeks massa tubuh > 23,0 kg/m2.Penelitian yang dilakukan bersifat deskriptif dengan teknik pengambilan data menggunakan teknik purposive, yaitu dengan mengambil sampel pada responden yang telah diketahui memenuhi kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Data diperoleh dari hasil pemeriksaan sampel darah setiap responden dan disajikan dalam bentuk distribusi frekuensi dengan menggunakan Microsoft Excel 2007. Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan pada 26 responden didapatkan gambaran High Density Lipoprotein adalah normal sebanyak 58% dan tinggi berjumlah 42%.Kata kunci: Gambaran Kadar Kolesterol High Density Lipoprotein, Indeks Massa Tubuh > 23,0 kg/m2.

Abstract: Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement of nutritional status by calculating the ratio of height and weight. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is more common in a person with a BMI of more than normal. In patients with T2DM, there is lipid metabolism disorder, dyslipidaemia. Changes in lipid profiles consist of increased levels of total cholesterol, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), and triglycerides, and decreased levels of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL). This study aimed to obtain the correlation between body mass index and lipid profile in T2DM patients in Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Hospital Manado. This was a descriptive analytical study using patients’ medical record in Endocrine Clinic Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Hospital Manado from September to November 2015. The Pearson correlation test showed correlations between BMI and total cholesterol levels with r=0.037and p=0.763; between BMI and HDL levels with r=-0.249 and p=0.039; between BMI and LDL levels with r=0.091 and p=0,455; and between BMI and triglyceride levels with r=0.179 and p=0.142. Conclusion: Among T2DM patients, there were no significant correlations between body mass index and total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, as wello as triglyceride levels. However, there was a significant correlation between body mass index and HDL levels. Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2 (DMT2) lebih sering terjadi pada individu dengan IMT lebih dari normal. Pada pasien DMT2 terjadi gangguan metabolisme lipid yaitu dislipidemia. Perubahan profil lipid yang terjadi yaitu peningkatan kadar Kolesterol Total, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), dan trigliserida, serta penurunan kadar High Density Lipoprotein (HDL). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara IMT dengan profil lipid pada pasien DMT2di RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado. Jenis penelitian ini deskriptif analitik dengan menggunakan data rekam medik pasien di Poliklinik Endokrin Bagian/SMF Ilmu Penyakit Dalam RSUP. Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado periode September – November 2015. Hasil uji korelasi Pearson memperlihatkan nilai hubungan antara IMT dan kadar kolesterol total r = 0,037 dan p = 0,763 ; nilai hubungan antara IMT dan kadar HDL r = -0,249 dan p = 0,039 ; nilai hubungan antara IMT dan kadar LDL r = 0,091 dan p = 0,455; serta nilai hubungan antara IMT dan kadar trigliserida r = 0,179 dan p = 0,142. Simpulan: Pada pasien DMT2 tidak dijumpai hubungan bermakna antara IMT dengan kadar kolesterol total, kadar LDL, dan kadar trigliserida, namun terdapat hubungan bermakna antara IMT dengan kadar HDL.Kata kunci: IMT, kolesterol total, HDL, LDL, trigliserida, DMT2

Abstract: High density lipoprotein (HDL) is a lipoprotein containing apo A-1, associated with other apolipoproteins. One of the HDL functions is as the reversed transporter of cholesterol in order to reduce cholesterol level in peripheral tissues. Low HDL cholesterol level is often related to obesity. High cholesterol level, obesity, and low HDL level are known as risk factors of coronary heart diseases. Overweight subjects have higher probabality for suffering from heart diseases and stroke. This study aimed to elaborate high density lipoprotein (HDL) levels in males aged 40-59 years with body mass index higher than 23 kg/m2. This study used consecutive sampling method. Total subjects involved in this study were 20 males who lived in Malalayang. The results showed that there were 11 subjects with normal HDL levels and nine subjects (45%) with low HDL levels (<45 mg/dL). No subjects had high HDL level. Nineteen subjects (95%) were classified as obesity and only one subject (5%) as overweight. Conclusion: Most of the males 40-59 aged with body mass index ≥23 kg/m2 who lived in Malalayang Manado has normal HDL level. Salah satu fungsi HDL ialah transpor balik kolesterol untuk menurunkan kadar kolesterol di jaringan perifer. Rendahnya kolesterol HDL sering dikaitkan dengan obesitas. Tingginya kolesterol, obesitas, dan rendahnya kadar HDL merupakan faktor risiko penyakit jantung koroner. Individu dengan berat badan berlebihan berpeluang lebih besar untuk terkena penyakit jantung dan stroke. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran kadar high density lipoprotein (HDL) pada laki-laki berusia 40-59 tahun dengan indeks massa tubuh ≥23 kg/m2. Metode penelitian yang digunakan ialah consecutive sampling. Subyek penelitian berjumlah 20 orang laki-laki yang berdomisili di Kecamatan Malalayang Manado. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan 11 subyek (55%) dengan kadar HDL normal, sembilan subyek (45%) dengan kadar HDL rendah (<45 mg/dL); dan tidak ada (0%) yang memiliki kadar HDL tinggi (>60 mg/dL). Terdapat 19 subjek (95%) dengan obesitas dan hanya satu subjek (5%) yang mengalami overweight. Simpulan: Sebagian besar laki-laki berusia 40-59 tahun yang berdomisili di Kecamatan Malalayang Manado dengan indeks massa tubuh ≥23 kg/m2 mempunyai kadar HDL normal. One complex metabolic disorder that can unenviably affect the normal human physiology is diabetes mellitus(DM). It is indeed one of the commonest non-communicable diseases that has heightened to an epidemic level worldwide. For diseases like DM, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, type II DM, and other chronic diseases, body mass index (BMI) is identified as a positive and independent risk factor associated with morbidity and mortality. The objective of the study was to determine the relationships between BMI,blood pressure, and total body fat among inhabitants of peri-urban Ho, Ghana. Across-sectional survey was carried out between May and June,2018,among 132 inhabitants of Ho to determine the prevalence and associations among DM risk factors.The participants were selected by systematic random sampling. Standardized international protocols were used to measure BMI, blood pressure, blood glucose, and total body fat. Out of 132 respondents, majority 96 (72.7%) were female and the most common age group was 54-60 (31.1%). From the BMI classifications, 65 (49.2%) people were of normal weight while 6 (4.5%) were underweight. Total body fat (%) and blood pressure, likewise total body fat and BMI recorded significant associations of values (0.299, p<0.001-systolic; 0.298, p=0.001-diastolic), and 0.585(p<0.001),respectively. On the contrary, there were insignificant associations found between blood glucose and diastolic blood pressure and also blood glucose and systolic blood pressure(0.100, p=0.253)and (0.057. p=0.514),respectively using the Spearman’s correlation analysis. Lastly,the test of association of socio-demographics and anthropometrics revealed there was a significant (p<0.001)correlation between total body fat and BMI using Pearson’s correlation analysis. BMI is closely related to total body fat and blood pressure;hence,education on lifestyle modification needs to be intensified to create awareness among the inhabitants of Ho municipality of Ghana.It is imperative to educate Ghanaians and beyond about the risk factor associations that predispose an individual to DM.
