Amberlyst A-26 catalyses the efficient synthesis of α-hydroxy-arylacetic acids from aryl methyl ketones in the presence of SeO2. After simple separation, the catalyst does not lose its activity and can be reused without significant loss in activity for at least four cycles.

An iodine-promoted sequential dual oxidative Csp3–H amination of aryl methyl ketones and Csp3–H iodination of pyridin-2-ylmethanamines have been realized for the first time. This simple and efficient approach constructed 1-iodoimidazo[1,5-a]pyridines in moderate to good yields.

Terpenoids 1 and 2 have been synthesized from readily available starting materials using Li2CuCI4-catalysed coupling of Grignard reagents with alkyl/aryl bromides and microwave-assisted oxidation of allylic methyl groups, using SeO2/ButOOH adsorbed over SiO2 as key steps.
