Chiral spiro phosphorus ligands including monophosphoramidites and diphosphines, which contained 1,1'-spirobiindane as a backbone, were designed and synthesized. These spiro ligands were proven to be highly efficient for rhodium- and ruthenium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenations of prochiral olefins and ketones with excellent enantioselectivities.

Chiral rigid and electron-donating phosphocyclic phosphine ligands and modular atropisomeric biaryl phosphine ligands were designed and synthesized. The performance of these chiral ligands in the asymmetric hydrogenations of prochiral dehydroamino acid derivatives, enamides, imines, keto esters, and ketones has been demonstrated to be excellent.
