⊿G for the reaction R·+ + R·- → 2 R + ⊿G was calculated according to ⊿G = -(IP-EA) = -⊿ E1 for the reaction in gas phase under ideal conditions. The result was compared with ⊿H in solution measured calorimetrically and the entropy term measured voltammetrically according to ⊿G = ⊿H - T⊿S. Both values for ⊿G agreed satisfactorily. From this it was derived that the solvation energies of R·+ and R·- compensate mutually. The Coulomb energies have little influence on ⊿G only
